I'll get right to the point. I have an opportunity to get a backlit GBA for half of what they normally cost, but I don't know who originally did the mod. I also don't have it physically in my hands, so I cannot inspect it thoroughly. Based on the many photos, it is in excellent condition, and it also still has the original Nintendo shell/buttons. Would you guys advise for or against that type of purchase? I know mod quality can vary, but based on everything I've seen and heard, it is very solid. My only concern would be, is it possible they used a AGS-001 screen instead of the brighter AGS-101?

How are we supposed to anwser any of that? Unlike you, we have not seen the offer...  ;D

The AGS-001 model is not backlit. It has a frontlit display.

Personally, I have not heard of such a scam, yet.
Even if it does turn out to only be an AGS-001 screen, at half the price you should still get your money worth, I think.
The cost for such a mod should be around $60 maybe. ($20 for a GBA, $25 for a GBA SP (AGS-001), $5 adapter cable, 1 hour work)

Try picking it up personally.
Try paying via PayPal or Ebay.

Or just take the risk. If it is not a total fake, you would still be able to sell it on afterwards.

The red bit is the kind of information I was looking for. Thanks!
