It is very dependent on your budget. This is far and beyond the best paper I've seen for covers http://www.redrivercatalog.com/browse/45lb-zeppelin-semigloss-double-sided.html.

I've been recently using matte photo paper for mine, in things like DS and DVD cases, it's hard to tell the difference between that and glossy, and it's much cheaper

Matte paper should work fine but you will need to look for something labeled for use with Laser printers.

I do agree you do not need the extra money for any glossy / photo paper as once you actually put it in the case (DVD, DS, UGC, etc.) you cant tell the difference. You will tell a more noticeable difference between a cheap stack of paper you'd get at a department store vs a better quality, heavier paper though.

For reference, I used this (with great results): http://www.redrivercatalog.com/browse/50lb-premium-matte-double-sided.html
but I do not know if it would work with a laserjet printer as it's made for inkjet.

One thing I will add is that the only time I find the glossy paper to be a noticeable improvement over the matte paper is on any cover that uses a lot of black.  I use glossy paper for my PS1 and PS2 covers because it looks a lot closer to the original PS1 and PS2 covers.  For pretty much everything else, I use matte.

Fortunately, PS1 and PS2 covers can be printed out of letter sized paper if you print margins will allow for it.  And letter sized glossy paper is super easy to find anywhere.  Anything that requires legal sized paper, I go with the matte paper.

Also, while SNES covers use a lot of black, since 100% of those covers will be custom made and printed, you don't have to worry about matching them to originals.  That's why I use glossy with PS1 and PS2.  I only have a few of each of those games without original covers, and the matte paper sticks out like sore thumb when they are all sitting on a shelf.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I have also used that paper, and to be honest, I would recommend looking for a cheaper semi-gloss. That paper is good, but matte won't give you a "box" finish. But to each his own.
