Now that BotW is released, this thread is about anything and everything BotW.

I'm afraid I know virtually nothing about it and what makes it non-traditional.

I tend to not look into the new Zelda games too much before I play them.  The modern "see the entire f#cking game before it even comes out" generation that we're in really irks me.  It spoils the surprise and excitement of a new game for me.

In the end, it's Zelda.  I'm going to buy it.  As long as it's not another Skyward Shit, then I'll be ok.

This here.  For that same reason, once I saw the original trailer for The Last Guardian, I refused to read or watch anything related to it.  I wanted to play the game knowing as little as possible about it.  I think that payed off for me.

I will definitely get Breath of the Wild.  But for me, as much as I hate to say this, I'm planning on making this the first Zelda game that I've played through to the end.

Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I am not an early buyer.
I usually wait for reviews to get at least a general idea of the games quality.
There are so many good games, that I do not want to waste my time and money on a bad one.  ;D

As for the next Zelda:

So far my only concern is the "open world"-like concept.
In the demo-gameplay footage the world seemed too big and too empty. There were a few individual places of interest (like a lone building or a camp), but with a lot of empty fields, forests or rubble in between.

There were no hordes of enemys like in WOW to fill the massive places.
There were no killer graphics like in Firewatch, where you can just walk around and marble at the environment / atmosphere. (Although the graphics are OK and fitting for a Zelda game.)

I don't see how Zelda is going to fill this huge world.
It might get annoying very fast, when you constantly have to rush through boring nothingness to get to the next interesting spot.

I am in total agreement with this too. I have watched about 15 minutes of demo, and it was enough to show that this Zelda is far from traditional. Breath of the Wild looks much more like a modern RPG, and it takes place in a MASSIVE open world. You may want to just spend about 10 minutes watching some demo, so you're not completely in a state of "WTF?" when you buy it. The ounce of research I did spoiled nothing.

Nope. I still prefer not knowing. If it were some new franchise, then I'd want to know more about it.  But it's Zelda. I'm gonna buy it regardless. Nintendo RARELY lets me down, and even when they do, it's like "well, this style of chocolate is amazing, but this newly released chocolate over here is only so-so."

It's still chocolate.

This exactly. I think what I HAVE seen of the game is great, and that basically amounts to "It's Zelda but with a really big world and new story". I would honestly hate to see anything else to spoil what's going on. In short, very excited for this and will be picking it up as soon as possible.

Alright! So I'm assuming many here have played it. What are everyone's thoughts? Am I the only one who HATES the spoken dialog?

I'm very addicted to it at the moment.  I'm playing the Wii U version since I don't plan on getting a Switch for at least a year.  I haven't had any problem with the spoken dialog, but I'm glad that it's somewhat limited to major scenes.  So far no major complaints.  I finished the plateau part tonight, but my game time is limited due my schedule.  I'm really enjoying the exploration part of it more than anything.

I most likely won't be buying this until I pick it up from a garage sale for $5. I'd much rather play a good game like Horizon or Nioh. Zelda titles have disappointed me so bad that alls I can do is just rub my eyes in annoyance whenever people talk about it.
Sure this one could actually turn my mindset around but I don't want to risk paying for it. Also I'm not knocking you all or any of my friends for wanting to play it. This is a forum after all and we can almost talk about anything we want. I just wish I wasn't the only person that felt this way.
What are you looking at? You think baby's don't like video games? THEN YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT BABIES!!

Although like I said I DESPISE the spoken dialog, the exploration in this game is phenomenal. It is absolutely breath-taking. If BotW had the same overworld, exploration, and weapons system, but also had no spoken dialog and traditional Zelda dungeons (along with the shrines), this would easily be one of the best Zeldas ever. So far though, I have mixed feelings. The lack of traditional Zelda dungeons/items feels a lot less like a Zelda. And the spoken dialog (sorry to mention it so many times) is very counter-submersive for me. I just mute the TV whenever a spoken scene shows up, but if they offered a "spoken dialog off" option, I would be thrilled.

Because of what you said, I feel it's important to point out that I've never played through a Zelda game before.  The most I've ever done is about 2 hrs worth of LTTP.  So keep that in mind when I say this game is amazing.

It's amazing. Haven't finished it or anything (it's huge), but so far I love it. I would love to have more traditional Zelda Dungeons but that's really my only small gripe. It's one of the most engaging games I've ever played and I absolutely love it.
