^^^ this.
1 = $50
2 = $80

Just wait for the pro controller then, or whatever they're gonna call it.
SegaNomadman:
Sorry about that. I guess I meant the set since I said $80. I didn't know that they could be purchased separately until now.

When you boil it down, the price for the controllers is pretty much the same as most other modern controllers.
Each has its own battery, motion control doohickey, and so on. Fewer buttons than the competition, but the extra cost surely comes from the motion controls, which the Xbox and PS4 are lacking.
I didn't bother ordering a second set of controllers, as the only game I'm getting at launch is Zelda. I'm sure 1-2 Switch will be in bargain nine within 3-4 months, so I'll get it and more controllers then :P

Actually a set of 2 Joy Cons should probably be considered to be a good deal since you have two batteries, and two sets of, whatever is used to communicate with the system. That's a lot of extra cost, and it's still priced similar to a PS4/Xbox controller.
But to me it doesn't matter that much. I rarely have other people at my house, so I don't really need extra controllers. Whenever I buy one, I will get a pro controller for it because that will be the only controller I use (assuming I'm playing a game that it's compatible with). I've only had my Wii U since December, but I've only used the Game Pad twice. Fortunately, all of the games I've played so far are compatible with the Pro Controller, so I've just been using that.
Speaking of the pro controller, what are the odds that the Wii U Pro controller will be compatible with the Switch?
TDIRunner:
Also, I was in GameStop today, and a few of us were talking about the Switch. While I was there, one of the employees was looking at the Wii U in their system and noticed and GameStop now lists it as discontinued with no replacement sku. He actually had to take down the Wii U box that sits up on the shelf with the price tag. I guess it isn't much of a surprise, but I still figured it would last a little big longer. Most systems continue to be sold for at least a year after the next system comes out. On the bright side, he let me have the box because he was just going to throw it out anyway. So I've got that going for me, which is nice.
