What a steal on that Turbo! I've been wanting to grab one off Ebay for a while, but the bad capacitor issue has made me hesitant. Anyone who has a unit which has been re-capped is always asking some insane amount of money for it. But, I don't want to buy one that isn't re-capped because then I'll just have to pay someone to do it anyway, as it's not a task I feel comfortable undertaking.

Just to clarify the standard TurboGrafx 16 units don't have capacitor issues.

Is that so? I hadn't heard that. What's the difference between the units? I know next to nothing about TurboGrafx.

I'm not aware of any Hu Card only systems that have cap issues.  That would include PC Engine, CoreGrafx, CoreGrafx II, TurboGrafx-16 and SuperGrafx.

It's just the Duo and Super CD ROM systems.  And even then, only the earlier ones.  The Duo R is much more reliable.

Yup only the CD systems and the Express handheld need the caps replaced. The problem is from the poor quality surface mount caps that were used at the time. The TurboGrafx 16 uses radial caps and works fine; same with the systems TDIRunner listed above including the Duo R.

Got Urban Strike for $4 - it's quite an uncommon game and is worth $60+.

I had no idea about Urban Strike.  Cool to know, I'll have to keep an eye out for it!

Here's my pick ups from the weekend.

Glad to finally knock Silent Hill off my list.  Also, I picked up Wild Arms XF and Brave Story for the PSP.

My LRG Black Friday purchases arrived today.  Octodad ended up being my "mystery box" purchase.  I was pleasantly surprised by that.

Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

One lucky gamer here. I'll be playing on a NES Classic during the xmas party this year ;D

Bought it online with instore pickup, but had zero trust in the store employees. "No we didn't received it" ... it is of status delivered. "Can't find it in the backstore with your name or order number" ... delivery confirmation was signed by [your name tag]. "Ho wait, i'll search again" ... arrived with an open box with a NES classic box inside.

Anyway, I got it now :)

This came in today too. I won it off a Nintendo Age raffle/giveaway. I think something like 200 people had entered it for a chance to win 1 of 4 prizes. This was the "second place" prize.

I came back to my home town for the holidays.  *it still surprises me that an average sized city in upstate NY has 7 quality local game stores, when San Diego has all of 2*
I was at one of the smaller locations, checking out, when one of the managers brought out a stack of NES Classic Editions.  Apparently they just came in today, an hour or so before I visited.  Now I wasn't really going to grab one of these at a high price, seeing as I have 25 of the 30 games in physical form.  But I couldn't resist.
I got all of this for about $100 before tax.

The Bahamut Lagoon repro is nice because (unlike my clock tower and a few other repros I have) this one actually works with the retron 5.  Forgotten Worlds was a nice grab for $2, and Spawn is a terrible game, but this copy is mint, and the lenticular cover is stunning.  All in all, a nice day.  I hope my other stops this week are as fruitful.

Ended up getting a lot of "Defective" Game systems on Ebay.  Listed as not working, what I got was:
About $150 worth of controllers and cables
N64 w/ expansion pak - Working
SNES - Working
3x Genesis - Working
NES - Working
PS One - WOrking, but makes clicking sound
PS2 - Fat - Working but loud

Ended up painting two Genesis to try and resell, also picked up Toy Story on SNES, crappy condition, but still a decent game I remember playing way back when.  Also did a LED mod on the Genesis, Blue for the Sonic themed one, Yellow for the batman.

I can tell you a bit about retron 5 compatibility.  It's MUCH less about the game itself as it is the way the game was made. I.e. The board it's on. Most games on an original SNES donor board will work, even if the game on that board isn't in the database. Boards from Infinite NES lives are 0% compatible with the retron 5. It's not about the quality of those boards, but rather the way that they're configured.  I've seen some people make adapter boards which allow for the use of 27C322 EPROMs with a donor board. I'm not 100% sure of the compatibility with such a board. I've only ever had one in my procession, and I don't even know where it is at this point.  None of the multi game board configurations that I've ever used get along with the Retron 5.  They require either a power cycle (reset) or on-screen menu in order to switch between ROMs, neither of which are compatible with the R5.

Basically, R5 compatibility is a toss-up, unless you know exactly what's inside and whether that configuration has actually been tested on the R5 or not.

Thanks for the info, that is actually pretty helpful.  It also makes sense.  There were several repros in the store that had "DOES NOT WORK WITH R5" on the cart, so I guess those titles are made differently.  Clocktower, the Zelda hacks, Brutal Mario, etc.
As for THIS game, the store knows I live on the other end of the country and they're always good to me, so I have trust in them...that and they have a demo retron 5 in the store that I sampled it on just to make sure.  ;)

Same! I just recently got an email saying it should ship this week though. Not sure how long it's going to take...

I know this is a long post with a lot of pictures. I apologize.  ;)

It's been a little bit since I posted my pickups, but I figured I'd post the last week's thrift shop pickups. For those of you who have given up or are close to giving up on thrift shops -- don't! You can still get pretty lucky at some thrift shops.

First up.. I got this game at a Goodwill for $3. Since I don't collect Xbox, I already sold it for $20.

The next few photos are all from the same day.

(I paid $.50 for sealed Fifa)

These were impulse buys. $5 each.

These were $5 each. All mint condition.

Here is my personal favorite pickup of the week. This is the original Star Wars soundtrack. Paid a whopping $1.50 for it  ;D.

In this next photo, I paid next to nothing for each of these. Nascar 08 was purchased sealed, but the shrink-wrap was peeling, so I just tore it off.

I got this for $5 at a local resale shop. Still sealed of course.

Also got this for $5 at the same shop.

I am sure I missed a few things. I seem to be getting quite lucky lately.

I also just finished upgrading the PC in my custom arcade cabinet (new case/SSD).

Did you get a shipping confirmation or tracking number when this was shipped out?
