| PS3 Remote Play question(s) - anyone out there using this? |

OK, for all you smarter than me out there (probably most of you). I have a PS3 and I have been playing around with remote play for a while. I know there are problems with it, since I travel a lot, I would like to be able to access my files via the internet. I am using a media server on one of my home computers so I can access all my mp3's and photo's through my PS3. I am using the most current firmware on the PS3 and the PSP. Here is a rundown on my situation: 1. 'Remote Play' works fine when I am at home and can connect to the PS3 directly with my PSP. No surprises here - everyone seems to be able to do this. 2. To remote play over the internet you have to check the 'Enable Remote Start from the Internet' button in set-up. I have done this. 3. I know there is a well documented problem with Remote Play with some routers waking up the PS3 without any signals from a PSP. This is apparently related to the ARP broadcast from the router. This was a major problem for me, but I finally got it sorted out. What happens is the PS3 gets a signal from the router and thinks someone is trying to connect via 'Remote Play'. If a 'Remote Play' connection is not made, the PS3 unchecks the 'Enable Remote Start from the Internet' and goes back to standby mode, thus ending any further remote play via the interent. I have solved this problem and my PS3 no longer suffers from this. The 'Enable Remote Start from the Internet' button stays checked (a week so far). 3. Here is my problem: If my PS3 stays in standby mode too long (after a few hours).... it refuses to wake up via the internet using 'Remote Play'. It will still wake up if I am at home and connect 'Remote Play' directly from my PSP to the PS3. Once I have done this, if I shut down the PS3, I can 'Remote Start' it once again via the internet. But after being in standby mode for a few hours, it will no longer 'wake up' via the internet again. So I guess what I am looking for and unable to find is if there is some sort of 'deep standby' mode that it is going into that can only awake the PS3 locally. |

I've only used this on so many occasions outside of my house. My school has remote play and playstation blocked so that has been out of the picture for me. I've had variable success trying from different houses to connect to my PS3. The one issue I had was the remote play connecting and waking up the PS3, but then it'd sit there and time out on a black screen. I found if I manually put the PS3 into remote play mode it'd work sometimes, and other times it'd work flawlessly without having to put the PS3 in manual mode. To answer your question specifically, I'm not sure, sorry. I wish I knew more about the issues myself, but I haven't had enough time or motivation to go out of my way to test this from another network. |

Well, on the bright side.... I let it sit in standby for about 6 hrs and then it worked fine waking up over the net. I will let it stay in standby mode overnight and try it in the morning. Maybe I have it sorted out. :) On a sad note... I really have not found much to do with my PS3 other than play Blue Ray Movies. Most of the games kinda suck. I have the newer 80gb model so it will not play ps2 games, but so far it plays all my ps1 games which allows me to play them with the wireless controllers which is kinda cool. |

Some of the games are really only fun with a bunch of other people, like LittleBigPlanet. I really enjoyed MGS4, though I've had the most fun with my PS3 with fighting games. Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix and Soul Calibur 4 have been a lot of fun. I'm really looking forward to Street Fighter 4 in less than a month, too. So far, I only own one blu-ray movie and that's the dark knight. I look forward to getting more eventually. |

well, at least you have a nice TV to use Blu-Ray discs with... I have a 27" SD-TV hooked up to my 360 Elite and older 80GB PS3...just doesn't do them justice. |
