I finally did it! I finally bit the bullet and got a Gamecube Component Cable! I didn't get completely ripped off either.

After comparing it to composite, the GameCube feels like it is from an entirely different console generation. I am going to do a full replay of a couple games because the difference is astonishing.

I also got an excellent copy of Shadow of the Colossus. I've heard so many good things about it, I figured it's about time I played it through.

My best advice is to start playing it tonight.  Fantastic game.  Would love to hear what you think about it.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Same for me, even though I'm one of the few who feels that Ico is better.

I liked it slightly better also.  The only thing is the controls.  Both games have utterly terrible controls.

I wouldn't say the controls are terrible.  They are just not very intuitive.  But once you become used to them, they work quite well.

$205. It is still a lot, but not a complete screw job like most of them (I see them sell for $250 all of the time). But like I said previously, the picture quality is insane. It truly does feel like a different level of console. It gives me a lot more respect for the quality of the GameCube.

TDI, as you suggested, I started playing it last night, and it truly does feel like an epic game so far. I don't know if I would put it at the top of my Playstation 2 favorites list, but I have a feeling once I am through with the game, it will at least be in the top 5 or so.

But as others have said, my biggest complaint is the controls. They are very dated, and if I am being quite honest...sort of shit. Now obviously once I've played the game for enough hours, I'll be used to it, but nonetheless an epic game.

Obviously everyone is entitle to their own opinions, but I honestly think that most people claim that the controls suck simply because they are different than most third person 3D games.  As I said, they are not the most intuitive for someone who hasn't played the game before, but that doesn't mean that they are broken or bad.  The controls are designed around scaling the colossus and they work very well in that regard.  If anything, I would expect people to complain about the camera more than the controls.

It shouldn't take more than the first who colossi to get used to the controls.  If it takes longer than that, I would recommend getting some practice on the first two because the game starts to get real with the third colossus.

Again, I'm not really docking the game on the controls; they just feel dated (I've played many games with similar controls, but that control style was beaten out by the more familiar current one). When I said controls, I was lumping the camera with it. The camera is a bit haywire at times, but I'm used to Nintendo 64, so the camera doesn't bug me. Also, I am already fairly used to the controls but not as comfortable as other games.

I am absolutely going to play the game through. Like I said, it feels epic. Did they by chance change the controls in the PS3 revamp?

The controls are just part of the experience for me, much like tank controls in resident evil games. I can stand any of the newer RE games partially because of the lack of tank controls :P

I'm with you on that. I REALLY miss how RE 1,2, and 3 played, and even though I like how the RE's play now, when 6 was coming out and they claimed it would be like the old school experience, I was highly disappointed with the game after playing it. Revelations 1 and 2 have been my favorites by far after 3.
The tank controls going by the wayside is ok for the most part, but the fixed camera needs to be impimented better.
As for the new REsident Evil/Biohazard, I'm either going to blown away or extremely disappointed. I personally have never liked he first person RE games.
What are you looking at? You think baby's don't like video games? THEN YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT BABIES!!

Tank controls are second nature to those of use who grew up with them and didn't know any other way.

It, literally, takes 5 minutes to learn tank controls, so it always makes me laugh when current gamers bitch about them.
