nostalgia is dope.
i love the feeling of that... well, that 90's feel (i was born '86).
case-in-point, just marathoned stranger things on netflix, it's set around pre-atari, or atari's first years (feel free to correct me), but everything, the music, the imagery, the references..... i loved it, and as a plus the plot was great and the wife and i binged on it for two days, we were sad when the final 8th episode was over...
i said all that to say/ask this... nostalgia feels good. but some of these games.... i try to introduce to my boy (6 yr old) and the games are just.... hard.
river city ransom held his attention for a bit but was even too hard even for me... blaster master was fun but too hard for him....
do y'all (i'm texan :P) collect for the sake of collection?
do y'all collect to play for yourselves (play w/ yourselves, lol)?
do y'all collect to play w/ kids...?
let me know if i should re-post this elsewhere..
maybe that crossroads thread, idk.

I collect to play. But I also find that older games tend to have much higher difficulty. The main reason for this is that older games are shorter, and the higher difficulty would mean that it would take longer to master the game and eventually beat it. Back then, most people expected to play the same game over and over again until you acquired the skill needed to beat it. These days, games are much longer and if the difficult was as high as older retro games, some of these games would never be beaten.
So with that said, I still love playing older retro games, but I do not have the patience and time to master some of these older games. That's why I like to use cheat devices like the Game Genie, or if I'm using a flash cart, I will usually patch the ROM for invincibility or unlimited lives. Some will disagree with this since the games weren't meant to be played that way, but I say play whatever way allows you to enjoy it. I love the TMNT beat'em up games, but I cannot beat them without unlimited lives. When I play those games, I pop them in and use the cheats to play though to the end and I have a great time doing it.
Fortunately, I don't have to cheat with some games. I still have the muscle memory to beat most of my childhood favorites like the old Mario games. I can just about beat SMB2 with my eyes closed. 8)
Bear78:
I was out in Denver this past week for a wedding and vacation and hit up some local stores. Finally knocked Gauntlet off my list and found some cool imports.
wiggy:
Some unusual colors coming from Japan as of late...
Megatron:
^ Is that Super Nintendo gray!? I may need to import one of those for myself!
edit...Nevermind...just looked at it on my 4k monitor vs my phone...it's lavender, huh? Ah well.
wiggy:
