I thought it worked similar to most clone systems, which don't rely on original hardware processes. I know the NES motherboard supports a better picture than composite, but Nintendo's installation of that connection requires modifying the board to work around it. That seems to be the main problem with any native-HD support for the NES.

It uses clone hardware, so while it's not original NES hardware, it is, essentially, recreated NES hardware and is running the actual carts. It's not emulating or running roms within software like all of the junk emulator systems out there. I've got one as well and it is so badass! A lot of people complain that the price is steep, but putting together all of that hardware and machining everything, certainly, doesn't come cheap. Especially considering this wasn't done by a huge corporation.

It was a good weekend.  ;D

Kirby wasn't cheap but it was well below ebay and is in really nice shape.  Seller said he was the original owner but never remembers ever playing it, just found it at his parents house.  The cart looks like it's never even touched a SNES.

picked up some battery packs for my 360 controller, however they don't fit in the charge pack slot.  I guess its a cheap knock off.  Does anyone know what brand of charge pack I should get?
