Believe it or not, that Backup Unlocker is actually just an Action Replay. There's a special installer disk that you can make to re-flash the firmware on the Action Replay, it removes the save backup and cheat codes function of your Action Replay though. Won't link for obvious reasons, but it's pretty neat that they figured out how to basically make a portable mod-chip!

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't the AVS just a glorified emulator? I thought it worked similar to most clone systems, which don't rely on original hardware processes. I know the NES motherboard supports a better picture than composite, but Nintendo's installation of that connection requires modifying the board to work around it. That seems to be the main problem with any native-HD support for the NES.
