Hey everyone,

For my SNES and N64 games out of a purely budget move I went down the route of VHS cases here in AUS. However they don't look as nice. I'm going to hopefully go down the route of either UCG or Shadow fox cases now that I have a bit more $. However I'm stuck at a point.

Is there a big difference in quality between the two cases? Off of eBay I can buy 100 new UCG for $190 AUD shipped. They've currently got a 10% off deal code which again lowers the price.

Shadowfox cases on the other hand will run be twice that amount at 380 AUD shipped for 100. Which I'd love to support shadowfox but that's quiet hefty, and I understand a lot of that is due to shipping costs.

Any input regarding this matter would be fantastic.

Thanks!

While UGCs are the most popular choice simply because they've been around the longest, most places online plus a few of my friends generally agree that the Shadowfox cases are of much higher quality. That's not to say the UGCs are bad, but like I said Shadowfox cases are generally considered higher quality, build wise and also in terms of the amount that break in transit. Also a few other things to note:

1) NES games wont' fit at all in the UGCs without modification, and I've heard that the Genesis games are extremely loose.

2) The Shadowfox SNES and N64 cases aren't actually out, though the SNES cases are available to pre-order, and I have heard something about them both releasing simultaneously.

So yeah, I recommended going the Shadowfox route but ultimately it's up to you.

Yes and major thing that will make me get Shadowfox cases in the future (once I have space... in my new house... in distant future... and moneeh) is that they hold manuals without fucking them up.

For the bulk of my games I don't have manuals so that's not too huge of a worry. For NES games, for the 30 or so I own, I was going to use 27mm DVD cases cause I can get them for about $1.80 each.

It isn't as nice of a solution but it is a solution nonetheless.

The Shadowfox cases do look amazing, he's done some amazing work on them. It's a shame that they're so expensive to get over here :(

I know aye also being Aussie it's kind of a pain getting the money to buy these, but at least in my eyes the quality makes it worth it.

It's so hard. Postage costs kills us. Especially with the dollar not fairing the best against the USD. I'm mainly going to be using these for selling anyway. Thought I might try my hand at selling some games on gumtree and casing them up to held save for my wedding haha. If not I'll use them to case up my own games.

Yeah the postage cost here has turned me off buying so many things. I must say though, if you're looking to use these to make a profit, judging from general eBay and gumtree listings I've seen, casing games doesn't really add that make value to them. The original box, however, could definitely net you some extra cash.

Mainly just for presentation purposes I guess. I figure if it costs me an extra $3 to case a game it might be worth it. If not it's always a bit of fun to muck around and see what I can come up with.

In my opinion, you are getting what you pay for.  I believe the Shadowfox cases are worth the extra money.  With that said, you still have to decide if you can afford the extra cost.  You are still getting a good case with the UGC, but every batch of UGC cases I've ordered has had slightly lower quality than the last.  I have enough spare UGCs now that I don't think I will ever have to order any more.  Hopefully going forward, I will just be able to buy Shadowfox cases.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I agree and think the Shadowfox cases are great and well worth the investment. For the most part, they work well and hold the games nicely, while the UGCs use a cheaper plastic, tend to have parts chip off easily, and probably wouldn't survive much banging around.

I'm not sure if it's because it's the first batch, but some of mine (both GB and NES) don't properly hold the cartridges in. Particularly, when opening the case, the cartridges may pop out, at least on one side. It doesn't really bother me because the cases do their job and are still an amazing product, plus they look beautiful with inkjet-printed semi-gloss inserts.

Edit: To be specific, we're talking sub-millimeter differences in the injection molding and most likely something beyond anyone's control. Also, I live in the same sweltering city (Las Vegas) as Shadowfox, so the heat very well could have microscopically warped them. Seriously, don't worry about it, it's a million times better than the UGCs, which don't even hold the cartridges.  ;D

Yeah I was just curious.
I know the quality is excelent.
I have been following how Shadowfox honed these to as near to perfection as possible.

I did recieve sample of NES case's first iteration and GB case and they were perfect.
True that heat might be factor as here we don't have it and the fit is poerfect. ;D

I guess I might just have to bite the bullet and get Shadowfox cases. Or just wait for Trump to be president and ruin the USD haha. Who knows. 1 AUD = 0.77 USD atm :( It's sad.

But yeah, I guess it'll be an investment.
