i wanted to upload a cover i just frankensteined, but the game isnt in the list. i didnt see a place to add a game. ive downloaded a lot of covers from here for my wii's emulators. i figured id try to give back to the community.

anyway the game is called "Sweet Home" on the NES (or Famicom technically), it was only released in japan, but one can find a translation if one is so inclined. it was considered the grandfather to resident evil.

i found a couple pictures of the box, but no scans. i found the front and back, doctored them up best i could in gimp, and created the spine from the 2 pieces i had. so its not exactly a retail cover. but its close.

ive got a couple other game covers that ive "made" like this, because they werent on this site. ill have to figure which ones they are and upload them too now that i bothered registering.

How should I put this to be as firm but polite as I can be...

Thank you, but fuck no.
Thank you. but no thank you.
Our site has very strickt quality requirements for covers accepted, which the preview and word "frankensteined" tell me this cover does not meet.

Few tips:
- Use scans of minimum DPI of 300, 600 preferred, as material.
- Clean them well.
- Retype back text if it's feasable (monotone background).

If you think your cover meets the site requirements, but you are not quite sure, please use Mediafire or Box to share stuff as those won't fuck up the resolution of the cover shared, so we can take a quick look and tell if it meets the standaats of if futher tinkering is needed.

Anyway thank you for the thought.

And to answer you question: Use game name that is next in alphabet order.

Covers like that are normally called 'Placeholder Covers' as they will do if no other is available, but as Arseen said, we now have strict guidelines in what covers are uploaded to the site. STill, if no other cover exists placeholder covers can be uploaded to the forums using image hosting sites like MediaFire.

I do have some tips in cleaning up bad scans like that to, if you use Photoshop (Might work in Gimp), I had to work with a lot of bad scans when casing up my GB games.

If you search the forums, a Sweet Home cover could have already been made.

well forgive me for sharing some of my hard work oh master, im sorry my piss poor attempt at working with what I could find wasn't good enough for you. I thought that maybe "something" would be better than nothing, as larryinc64 explained in a respectful way, but clearly my refuse will not do.

I saw that picture, but as it wasn't flat like mine was I found it useless, I didn't realize that downloading it would provide the raw flat image. so I thank you for pointing that out to me, but you may want to work on your manners.

perhaps if the person whose job is to do so, actually put that cover in the proper place in the site, I wouldn't have wasted that time last night making that sorry excuse for a cover.

ill think twice about trying to contribute to your oh so prestigious site in the future.

It's hard to advertise that the site has standards. We can only hope that new comers will read up on our policies. With that said, we get thousands and thousands of submissions every year and it's a lot of work filtering through it all.  We get a lot of crap from new comers that never explore the site, forums or our policies before hand. In many cases, it feels like the Movie "Groundhog Day".

It isn't anyone's job.  This is a hobby site.  A job would indicate that we actually get paid for our time here.
Also - it's pretty clear you haven't read any of the sites guides/stickies or searched for info about quality, image hosting, how to upload, etc, etc. So it's no wonder we get frustrated. (ie: never use photobucket as a host, as it downsamples your image horribly - to demonstrate - I downloaded your cover from there, and pasted it back into a correctly sized template - see how tiny it's become)

As an aside, arseen was trying to be funny.  Or at least gentle with you.  More a push towards upping your game, not a push towards don't bother.

As segamer says, we get way too many under par covers submitted to the site, it's impossible to say wow that's great to all of them - and I'm sure you'd rather get some feedback, even if it's negative.

As a rule, if the source image is less than 300dpi to begin with, and you have to enlarge it to fit in a UGC, it's extremely unlikely it will ever be of sufficient quality to meet the sites current standards.  That being said - it IS possible to work with sub standard images, clean them up, rebuild portions, replace logos, retype texts, use vector logos, etc, etc, to make a cover that would at least look decent printed.  However, unfortunately it doesn't look like yours has had enough done to it to make that the case.

We've all been there when we eagerly start out with photoshop - and we get something we think looks great, and want to share with the community.  In reality, unless you started with a great scan, or an in depth knowledge of Photoshop, the result is likely to be something that others will pull apart.  You've only got to look at some of the shit posted by some of our artists here when they started out - I've got a load of covers hosted here that are an absolute embarrassment - but I submitted them before we upped the quality standards.

In essence - keep at it.  Take the feedback, however brutal, and keep sharing.

PS - please remember that English is not the first language for many of our members/admins, so what you may think of as rude is PROBABLY more to do with your interpretation rather than them blowing up at you.  We're MOSTLY a friendly bunch here.  Even Arseen!  ;D

I appologise my rudeness.

Feel free to share covers on the boards using Mediafire or Box.
Please DO NOT upload to the site directly, as sub-par covers will be trashed immeadly and no word of it will be ever heard.

Again: I appologise my rudeness.

Peace ;)

For what it's worth, I didn't take it as rude at all.  I could definitely tell you were joking, but at the same time trying to get your point across.  But I've been around long enough to know how you write, while a new member may not take it that way.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."
