So I am curious on what people think this is going to do to the collecting community.  Personally I think its devastating since you cant tell the difference between the bootleg and real ones.

White outline around the Nintendo seal is pretty obviously fake on this one.  But agreed, it's getting harder.

I don't think it will hurt the collecting community, as if a collector is serious, they will do the necessary research before buying - if someone doesn't care, then they'll take the punt.

It's been going on in the neogeo scene for years, and the prices there have only gone up.  People get better at spotting fakes as quick as they get better at producing them.

Nothing.

It will have virtually zero affect.  They've been around for years now and it hasn't affected the price of legit copies one bit.  Same goes for SNES and NES bootlegs.

nes and snes bootlegs you can tell the difference.  You always have the option to open them up to check but these ds games look so close the the real deal.  This is the first I am seeing the fake ds games...I have seen the other gb fakes

GameStop sent me fake DS games a few years back.  I had to explain to them how they were fake when I was returning them.

The kids working there probably don't even know fakes exist.

Honestly though, most retail sales associates just wanna sell.  You get the odd knowledgeable one who knows how to spot a fake.

I'll put it this way... there was a big thing a couple years ago up here in Canada where a major electronics retailer (Future Shop, subsidiary of Best Buy) took back a bunch of ipads on return which turned out to be clay.   Cash sale, guy took the pads, stuffed them with clay and returned them.  They didn't even bother looking, just assumed they felt about right and took them back.

While working at a hardware store, we used to have people try to return cans of paint that were filled with water, but damn......... iPod boxes full of clay is something else entirely.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Back on topic,

Do the fakes sold work like real ones?  (Mainly looking at GBC games).  I bought a Green version, which obviously is a repro cart as they didn't release it in North America, but I'm unsure on just how good or bad it might be.  The guy was just selling one, which gives me more hope, but even if it is a bad fake, do the fake GBC games have issues?

Depends quite much on the skills of the maker.
Might have saving issues, or compatibility with real games.
Translation might be shit.
But with luck all is fine.

I would imagine they work the same but my point was these guy or gals buying the fake stuff and selling it off as the real thing
