The PS3 test is pretty much useless for non-DEVs, unlike the PS2 test consoles which were region-free and played backups. It's effectively a partially crippled PS3 for us normal folk :( But, like sheep said, if it plays BR movies, then it ain't a test. Same with being able to access the PS store and download games/updates/etc. |

Stickers are all still in place so it doesn't look like it was a refurb |

Doesn't the top pop off of the PS3 without taking it apart? Maybe somebody switched the top of a test unit with the bottom of a retail one? |
