Bear78:
I'd be all over this if it had support for carts.... or even if Nintendo released new games for it via flash carts or something like the NeoGeo Gold did.  I will probably pick up a controller though since it's Wii /Wii U compatible.
shenske:
I'm uncertain if I'll get this myself but I'm really glad nintendo decided to release this. It will sell very well and will hit the nostalgic strings of the core and casual customer.

At the very least I'll buy 2 to 4 of the NES Style Classic Controllers (especially @$10 each).

About supporting carts:

Nintendo wouldn't want to deal with the headache of uneducated customers calling their helpline saying "Hey! This is broken, my old nes game doesn't work on here! I hate you, now give me something for free!"

NES carts are pretty hit or miss when it comes to their longevity, which makes sense for a 30 year old form of media. Sure, many of us core gamers know how to properly clean or restore the games to be in proper working order. Your average casual customer probably does not. I think nintendo would avoid putting a cart connector that supports the older media on consoles. More of a headache than its worth.

Yes, companies like hyperkin and other obviously support carts but putting their name on something does hold the same weight as nintendo doing the same. With Nintendo trying to build up their name and momentum leading into the NX launch their is a lot on the line amd wpukdnt eant to even slightly tarnish their name. Also, since Nintendo's patents have expired on the NES they wouldn't touch it because they can't have quality control the market.
palmer6strings:
Considering that I have all those games, I most likely won't be getting one.

But that aside, it looks to have save capabilities otherwise Final Fantasy and the Zelda games would be useless additions.

Also, I'm a bit confused on why they added Star Tropics...don't get me wrong, it's great game. But unless they somehow patched the game to where you don't need to use that special paper out of the manual for the code, the game will be unbeatable without assistance from an outside source.

I am wondering if it will be possible to use it's hardware to mod a REAL NES to HDMI output  ???
I'll buy two systems just in case :)... one for cottage and one for hobby hacking.
