I guess some people don't 'get' the box makes it worth more. I got a Craig's List lot of a bunch of SNES boxed games, and they were priced eBay prices . . . of loose carts. I got a good deal, and the seller thought they were selling at market value.

Still, if you buy something in box, why the hell would you tear it up?

Good luck getting your money back.  That box makes me sad.  :'(

That torn up box just makes me extremely livid. Not that I'm promoting violence here but that deserves someone a bitch slap.

Unfortunately, I have had similar issues with eBay purchases. From my personal experience it seems to be a result of sellers attempting to avoid additional shipping charges. All too often I get items that needed extra packaging, but the seller chose to ship without to keep weight/size down. You should be able to get at least a partial refund from the seller. In general eBay seems to favor protecting buyers over sellers. Getting retro games off eBay used to be a great option, but things have really started to take a turn for the worse in the last few years.
TDIRunner:
At the end of the day, everyone has to understand that no matter how popular retro gaming has become, the vast majority of people still don't know that much about it and will never realize why a box would add value to something.  With that said, you reasoning for being mad and wanting a refund is still valid.  I don't think the seller intended to mislead you or piss you off by destroying the box.  It's clear that the seller honestly didn't know that anyone would care about the box.  But that doesn't mean you aren't entitled to either a full refund and return or a partial refund.  I hope it all works out for you.
