It's finally happening. It's exactly six months away. The hype is real. I've been holding off for a PS4 for a while - I'm going to wait for an exclusive console to get announced and them I'm on it.

JK, I don't care about the game or the underwear.  I haven't been a fan of that franchise since the PS1.

i think i'll review my position here, too many subjects of 'hype' i run into lately, not just here.
still, at least it's fair warning, and it's always a good thing to see hazards coming.

I have been excited about this game since it was originally announced as Versus XIII - back in 2008 or so. 
Will it suck?  Maybe.  But it can't be worse than IX, so I will play it.
I preordered it off Amazon - not sure if I'll keep this preorder or cancel and buy used down the road, need to see more of it first.

IX is my least favorite in the series.  From the character designs, to the plot, to the bad writing/dialogue.  I just didn't like any of it.  There are times when I felt the story was pretty solid, but then some new plot point would come wash away any good things I had to say about it.  No other numbered game in the series has ever made me groan as often or as loudly as this 4 disc nightmare.  (To be fair, I really haven't played 14.  At least not long term.  I played it on PS3 for a few days, but not enough to say whether I think it's any good) Is it the worst game ever?  No.  And technically speaking, the game is very well put together.  Controls, musics and graphics are all spot on for PS1.  But it's right up there for me on the "worst sequel of all time" list.
My own personal opinion, but like in my original post, I doubt another number FF game will piss me off as much as this one did.

I didn't mind 13, it was certainly different but I'm just happy to give this a go. This looks fantastic.


IX is pretty much the only one I haven't completed. But it's far from bad. I actually really enjoyed what I had played. I think I preferred VIII's battle system but going back to the older-style fantasy was really awesome. That being said I think I only got up to the third disc and then my ps3 died...

in fairness, i do have the ps3 set (nova crystalis i think as a bought trilogy box set) but as separates.
yet to go through em, just to ingratiate in the story, and not least a few know voices in there, still rough as fuck no matter what they star in. 
part way through first chapter, though i'm getting pasted...
done the usual grind routine, but there's a cut-off point til story is progressed.
can only level up so far, and bank all the extra ap's til objective complete, and pile it on there too.

doing my head in, and it's a known battle issue.
a boss on some carrier, and no matter what the strategy employed, it's ALL down to chance, whether the right move lands at the right time...and the bastard can do sweep attacks as basic, no focused/targeted attacks, ALL LOCAL, ALL NASTY!
