The cost of running the cover project is more than you think. Snowcone, who owns the site, pay's the cost out of pocket. The ads are to make up some of that cost.

I do understand that, hence why I said I'd donate. I've had web pages before, I am aware the costs.
What are you looking at? You think baby's don't like video games? THEN YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT BABIES!!

Virtually every forum has ads. They're so non-invasive here that I didn't even notice until I went to check PMs.

Wait... So we have ads on TCP now? Am I the only one who has noticed this, or has this been covered and I'm just late to the party???

If it's coming down to a money issue, I'd gladly donate to help keep ads off our page...

That's a new thing. It's a test run for the time being. I'm about to have to make some major changes to our hosting. We have maxed out the 100GB storage space and we push somewhere north of 750GB of traffic every month. Calculating out the cost of that at somewhere like AWS would put us north of $100/month. I'm looking at a few other options that expand our speed globally via a CDN but also upgrade the overall experience here (for I think the 5th or 6th attempt).

We might have a problem with bots or programs downloading covers. When I upload new covers, I've noticed that an average cover gets about 5 - 10 downloads a day but often, some random cover will get 1000 to 3000 downloads in a day. An example is Resident Evil series for Xbox 360. I posted Resident Evil 5, 6 and Operation Raccoon city at the same time. Both Resident Evil 5 and 6 had less than 20 downloads that day. Operation Raccoon City had more than a 1000 that same day.

This is an example; the day I posted this, it got 2000 hits in less than a day: http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=14839

I tend to leave my ad blocker on so I did not notice the ads until I was on mobile. I just added TCP to the white list.

Good lord! Call of Duty: Ghost on PS4 hasn't even been up that long. On my work website, we have fake captcha. It's always the same word you have to type in. It seems to work.

That's impressive numbers! I fully encourage the ad strategy.
If you want to push it a notch higher, an "official TCP" cover printing service through somekind of shopify site could cut resellers profit and bring it back to TCP to pay fees and even maybe buy covers for scanning ? :)

Most of the covers we post are someone else's IP.  If money is being made from someone else's intellectual property, it's copyright infringement.

Not to mention I'd have to do the work!
