I've become far more of a collector than a gamer myself (and yes, this site is partially to blame)

Same.

I seem to only play Lego games anymore.

I'm happy to say that I've been playing a little more lately.  It's hard to get more than an hour in on any given day where I might have some free time to begin with.

About 6 to 9 months ago, I was trying to play through 3 different games that I had never played before at the same time.  Ico, Limbo and Super Paper Mario.  That turned out to be a bad idea, because I got a little burned out and ended up finishing none of them.  Well in the past week finally I got back to them.  I beat Limbo first.  It turns out I was about 3 minutes from the finish.  I finished Ico two nights ago (I still consider it to be one of the greatest games I've every played and can't believe it took me this long to beat it).  So now I have the encouragement to get back to Super Paper Mario.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

What do you know? I just beat Ico on PS2 right now, literally 5 minutes ago. And also played  the secret ending after credits! I had it for 14 years and never played it much! I did need lots and lots of help with the walkthrough, but yes Ico is one of the most charming games of all time. Great game. Would you say it's like a Zelda? If not, what games do you consider similar to Ico?

By the way, there's another Ico game coming out called the Last Guardian. One of the characters other than a boy will be a gigantic Dog Bird, she will be like Yorda. I'm looking forward to it.

I feel like the NX is going to be 'Nintendo successful' - analysts, commentators, and a large section of gamers who weren't really that interested in Nintendo will proclaim it as a huge mistake, the end of Nintendo as a company, all the while, Nintendo will be happy with it and good games will come out for it. It will probably be a success in terms of quality, if not innovation.

Will it be a sales success? That's a much harder question to answer. I'm not thinking so - the mainstream is probably going to prefer the systems they currently have, and I'm not sure there's enough consumer interest in the NX (beyond Nintendo fans, that is) for it to overcome the PS4 (and Xbox One!), which is going to have an even more entrenched sales lead over the NX by the time it launches, and that may well make people write it off sight-unseen as an also-ran.

Unless Nintendo makes a deliberate effort to change this, the NX is probably going to be considered the "quirky alternative console you should get after one of the other ones", which, anecdotally, is the exact role I've seen both the Wii and Wii U take among people I know personally.

good piece overall.  :D
as for the quoted bit, it was the reverse for me, a few reasons, two below:
1, the 360 hardmod integration (rgh/jtag) is beyond my skill level to outfit, and the average fail rate of older console pcb revesions.
didn't want to take the risk.
the 360 i have was given for free, it's the ONLY reason i possess one.
2, ps3 was my goal, i had one up front, just not modded and stored away at the time, for jrpg and dodgy japanese games.  ;D
in the end, it's flashed and modded. (paid dirt cheap for it, and picke dup another BC base a few years ago too, ofw 3.61 mess. can't do shit with that one bar an ode and/or progskeet/e3flasher.)
...
admittedly, i'm no fan of nintendo, but the original wii solved a LOT of problem for me in the gamecube department...
by way of a wode jukebox ode, and a nand flash to combo the fucker.  :P
it was for ngc on a harddisk was the reason, wii roms as well are a bonus. (the pad optional playable games that is.)
...
aside small technical limitations, it's been the best of both worlds for me, IF i ignore that fuckin RSI inducing baton.  >:(
...
the wiiu i have is stored away pending a flash, just waiting turn.
reason for that block of shit, was wii bc AND the possibility of nds (possible dsi too?) rom playback.
the wiiu gamepad is a touchscreen as well, and the systems this user goes for usually have to be a consolidated effort, or i avoid.  :D

There are rumors that the controller isn't going to have physical buttons, but instead have a touch screen.  That way buttons can be assigned to different spots.

Also no Physical no Buy for Me, and with the large open world games like Witcher 3 and the new Fall Out. Its hard to find the time to get through them.  So I avoid them, because I know I wont finish them.

I have been trying to make more time for gaming. So far I am about 30 plus hours into Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel.    So doing pretty good so far.

If that's true, it definitely aids my theory.

Einhander, Last Guardian was canned forever ago. That game isn't ever gonna see the light of day.

I'm definitely of the "no physical copies, no buy" mindset here.

And last I heard The Last Guardian was planned to release this year? Did that change in the last 1-2 months?

I've heard this as well which is why I still have hope, but I think Wiggy is thinking that if it's been this long, it's not going to happen, or if it does, it won't be as good as we all hoped (think Duke Nukem Forever).

When Ico and SOTC came out, there wasn't much else like it which is why those games were so epic.  However, there are other games like that out there now, so The Last Guardian may not have the same type of impact that the other two had.  It's just a shame that they were not able to release something new on the PS3 (not counting the HD remake).  I think it's a big mistake when big series skip a generation (think Metroid on N64).

What are the other games out there that you said are like Ico?

Shadow of the Colossus, created by Team Ico, who also made (duh) Ico, and Last Guardian. You might also like Journey for the PS3/4.

Last Guardian started as a PS2 game, guys. The game has been in development for about 10 years. I'd love it more than just about anyone if it were to come to fruition, but I'm having a hard time putting ANY faith in some magazine blurb.

No faith in the E3 showing or the display at PSX either then?

It was supposed to be a PS2 game? So why don't they just finish up the game after all these years? You're a smart person. What's the hold up if you had to guess? It can't be that hard to make.

Yeah wiggy,  you're a smart guy, why haven't they finished it? why don't you just finish it - making games must be easy - you could do it!  ::)
