| Do you think Nintendo NX will be successful? |

It's coming out mid-gen. The way some people see it is that if done right NX has a very good opportunity but if it doesn't do well, it could be Nintendo's last console. The president clearly stated that it would be very different from the Wii and the Wii U. I would like to see it do well tbh. Nintendo has lost its edge for a while. We'll see how well the hybrid handheld console does. |

I think that if it wants to succeed it needs to recuperate in several areas. 1. Meet the hardware capabilities of the Xbox One and PS4 This one should really have been a given, but knowing Nintendo it is still worth restating. If support from third-party companies is ever to return, we need to see the hardware that can match up to the competition. 2. Begin making bonds with third-parties No matter how you want to look at it, there is no way that third-parties will just come running back to Nintendo. They have been shunned for four generations and a phone call isn't going to change anything. They need to begin getting a more core audience back onto their platforms. It's not about not being the 'kid system', its about being a machine that everyone wants. 3. True handheld-console hybrid or another killer feature Imagine playing a copy of the new Pokemon game while you are out on your normal day and coming home. Instead of just sitting down on your bed or in a chair to continue playing, you push a button and the game is up on the TV. This is how I see the NX taking the hybrid concept. Taking Off-TV play from the Wii U to a whole new level. Taking console games on the go and displaying portable ones on the big screen. This would be a system seller for me and many others (pending #4) 4. A strong system launch When the 3DS came out in 2011, the only games worth buying were a port of Street Fighter, a single-player PilotWings game, and a bare-bones Steel Diver. When the Wii U launched, all that was available was the next installment in the New Super Mario Bros. series and a disappointing Nintendo Land. Nintendo cannot start system launches with weak games. If the system doesn't launch with at least 2-3 core titles then the system may as well be in the trash. |

It will not be Nintendo's last console. Stop perpetuating this ridiculous rumor. Nintendo is FLUSH with liquid assets. Last year they had $10.5 billion banked up. The original Wii was one of the only consoles to actually make money on hardware at launch, the DS line is still extremely popular, and things like Amiibos have actually returned them to profitability. Sony has sold lots of PS4s, and made nothing on those hardware sales. Like Microsoft, their money comes mainly from software sales. Nintendo is not going anywhere. |

^^^ This. Anyone who makes claim that Nintendo is somehow struggling is not paying much attention to the numbers. They're FAR more profitable than either Sony or Microsoft's game divisions. Those two are only able to carry on with console gaming because they have other, profitable products/services. If they were games only, such as Nintendo is, then they would be long-since bankrupt. Just because you don't particularly like what Nintendo is doing, doesn't mean that they've fallen off the wagon, but rather adjusting to the market AND tapping into markets that they hadn't invested in before (I.e. Amiibos) Also, it's really rare that a console launches with more than a couple of worthwhile titles. The SNES launched with about 5 games, and while they were almost all worth owning (minus Bill Lambeer), it didn't have the sort of launch that the DC did, and look how well that went. Point is, launch titles don't matter whatsoever. You need just one decent game that appeals to as broad an audience as possible in order to move that first wave of consoles. Nintendo gamers know that they'll eventually get Zelda, Mario, DK, Mario Kart, etc. down the line. That's why people buy Nintendo consoles anyway, not for third party support. If I want to play Call of Dookie, then I'll buy and X-Station or whatever other me-too machine is popular at the moment. |

I think a launch of what might be a console/handheld hybrid this year is way too soon. It's alienating 2 groups of gamers, who only just bought into the last generation. Too many brands to run with, considering ds and wii is still live, along with 3ds and wiiu, nx makes 5. The wiiu is a great piece of kit, and should be exploited to the fullest before a new system is released. Of course bearing in mind what scant details we have of the nx, it could just be an add on for the u 0r the pc. |
