There's quite a few companies betting pretty heavily on VR, so whether we like it or not, a lot of money is going to be spent trying to make it happen. I made this poll with hopes of finding out what you guys think of the technology, since (as I say in the question), major announcements are going to be happening in the next few days.

I hope I included every option, but in case I didn't, well, that's what the 'other' option is for!

Oh my god!  People still talk about VR?!

I feel like VR has been "right around the corner" for 25+ years.

It actually works mostly as advertised now, so maybe this time will be different.

Release dates dates in the first half of 2016 is probably as "right around the corner" as you can get.

I go to use an Oculus DK1 about a year and a half ago.  It was really awesome.  Can not wait to see the improvements they made.

I totally plan to buy PlayStation VR.  I think the biggest hurdle is interacting with real world objects, and of course, walking or moving in the game.  The 1st isn't as big an issue with the technology we have today.  Think of a '3 dimensional green screen'.  My biggest hope is that it looks/feels immersive, with 3 dimensional viewing when looking through the headpiece instead of simply a high resolution tv inches in front of your face.  3 dimensional could be either done by a multi layer embedded display, or by focused 3D for each eye.  I feel that the best VR we will experience in this upcoming generation will be mechs or driving; something that you sit down in and don't have to physically move around a world.
I'm bender3455 on playstation network, feel free to add me!

There won't be enough quality software to support it to where it will be truly relevant.

I've used PlayStation VR and talked to people who've used the others, and we all agree with your last sentence. Cockpits and fixed positions seem to work best for VR, at least in the short demos that most people have gotten.

I talked to some people who tried RIGS (it's a first-person shooter that has you in these high-speed mechs with jetpacks), and they pretty much all reported being motion-sick st first, but that it went away. So it may just be a matter of getting used to it.

I used to go there before clubbing most saturdays in the early 90's.

 ???
wiggy said it best.
beside, i feel betrayed and robbed, supposed to have my own transport barge, running minerals across the sol system. (and perhaps, beyond?)
dead serious, we're supposed to have it already (plus VR advanced/evolved too) and a chunk more technology.
...
no, as it stands, nothing really constructive to add, out of me price range for a start, and i expect nothing shy of perfection now.  :'(
i'll focus on modding/upgrading my existing tech, i have more than a fair share for one man.  :P
of course, if it standardizes (like storage medias for an analogy) could get in on it, after it's FULL societal integration.
...
1991, was a good year for many computer manufacturers and developers, including commodore and atari, in this very field.  ;D
a crying shame for a generations worth of black hole advancements in the area. (like hand held tv's in the 80's/90's, just rehashed into *****phones and the like nowadays.)

I personally have no interest in VR. I think it takes away from what gaming is. I know I don't want to have this thing strapped to my head or stand in a unit.
I also know, that once the current systems die out, I'm not buying anymore new systems. This gen is such a pile of shit with all the stunts they've tried to pull, (online only, having to dl the whole game to your system, mediocre games, etc...) There will be plenty of games out there anyway that I haven't played so it's not like I would be missing out on anything.
What are you looking at? You think baby's don't like video games? THEN YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT BABIES!!
