Recommendations for PS3 games

Hero's Shade:

I'm thinking of getting a PS3 in the near future, and I was wondering what games you guys would  recommend for me to get for it.  Keep in mind that I'm an RPG gamer.

the7k:

I have not got Valkryia Chronicles yet, but based on the demo, it's one of the best Tactical RPGs I've played. As soon as I can afford it, I'm getting it.

LittleBigPlanet is an obvious get; again, I've not got it myself, but it's on my list. Also there is Disgaea 3, I have to make sure to get it from Best Buy so I get the soundtrack with it. Folklore is the first "RPG" for the PS3... not a great title gameplay-wise, but it has an interesting style to it. Eye of Judgement is also essential for anybody who has ever once been interested in Magic: The Gathering or any of its other card-based brethren. And, of course, there is the reason I got a PS3, Metal Gear Solid 4. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Heavenly Sword are worth getting, but only if you can find them for really cheap; I managed to snag Uncharted for $20 at a pawn shop, but it regularly goes for $35. Heavenly Sword I rented (and beat in about 2-3 days), but I'd buy it if I found it for about $15.

If you wanna start off cheap, there's Motorstorm ($12), Virtua Fighter 5 ($13), The Darkness ($13), The Club ($14), Ridge Racer 7 ($15), Resistance ($19), Warhawk ($22), Burnout Paradise ($23), Devil May Cry 4 ($25), Folklore ($28), and GTAIV ($30). The only games I haven't tried out from that list includes RR7 and GTA4. Resistance, The Darkness and The Club come with my highest recommendations, despite the fact that they all belong to the overflooding FPS genre.

Timstuff:

Assuming you don't have a gaming PC rig or an Xbox 360, you really can't go wrong with Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Fallout 3. Those are easily two of my favorite games this gen. There's also Folklore which is quite a bit of fun, and has some nifty downloadable content available. Valkyria Chronicles would probably be right up your alley too, as the7k suggested. Next year is when the REALLY good stuff starts coming out, though. Here's an article (from much earlier this year) that sheds some light on the PS3's RPG scene.

Granted, Final Fantasy XIII is not longer PS3-only, but that's still quite a healthy list. Also, there is fequent talk that the sequel to Mass Effect will be on PS3 as well as Xbox 360, and Bioware has hinted that their new Star Wars MMO might be coming to PS3 (although I wouldn't get too excited about that, since "MMO" is pretty much synonymous with "Pay to play"). We're pretty late into 2008 now though, so if you pick up Oblivion GOTY Edition and / or Fallout 3 it should certainly meet your RPG needs into 2009.

Mick Dundee:

Seeing as you already Have Eternal Sonata for 360, I Don't see a reason to purchase that one for PS3.

If your looking for traditional RPG or Action RPG, I can't give you any advice. X-Box seems to have PS3 beat in that area right now hands down.

If you don't mind goofy jump around games with a lot of customization... I Highly recommend Little Big Planet.  (I have owned my ps3 for over a year now. and this game has been in it the longest)

Might I suggest a theme for your PS3 though?

The Darkness is quite different from an average FPS shooter. With its slight adventure/rpg elements, the great setting, play mechanics and story it's even worth the money for someone who usually doesn't play FPS or played them all and is not easily entertained.

And The Club is more of third person shooter. Actually playing it I felt like I was playing Project Gotham Racing with guns :)

I'm not a big Rpg fan (anymore) so I can't recommend any game. But if you're into action games I'd say apart from the already mentioned Devil May Cry 4 and Uncharted try Ninja Gaiden Sigma.
