So, I bet you all though it was gonna show pictures of me breaking a Vita. SORRY!!! I'm not gunna!

What this is really about is, I still want a Vita. But it just never seemed to get good support. I hardly ever see anything new come out and I believe Sony has already claimed to be done making major titles for it.

Granted there are a few... FEW good games that come out for it from some other companies.

So anymore if I buy one, shoul I just go ahead and put custom firmware on it?

Someone please help give me some insight on these subjects and throw out some opinions too.

Well........
It does have a nicer screen to play ps1 and PSP games on.
That's what I primarily use mine for.

It's sad really. The Vita is an incredible system that still should have more of a life to it. SONY is squandering it. It gives me flashbacks to Minidisc.

It is a real disappointment. So much untapped potential with this system.

Its obvious lack of retail success means i will never get what i was hoping for all along ... the PS-Vita-XL. I've always wanted a WiiU Tablet sized Vita. It would make remote play so much better have a screen where i can read the text and full sized buttons for remote play (the Dekavita 7 doesn't cut it).

So in other words it's awesome retro portable unit, oh an it plays vita games.

Custom firmware? Whatcha think? If I can easily play backups of my owned ps1 games that would be awesome. (Because it's a pain in the arse to do on the psp.)

The main reason I want one is Borderlands 2, Terraria, Minecraft, and some good JRPG's.

I absolutely think you should go ahead and pick one up.  I think its an amazing system that was underutilized.  See video for good explanation:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=REaUzHef9h4

All that said, the system does have the JRPG's you're looking for, and while custom firmware may be the way to go eventually, I don't believe that you will need to step up to it just yet. Memory cards for the vita are too expensive currently to get the biggest size, which you'd probably want with the custom firmware.

And just like minidisc, the Vita was the wrong product at the wrong time.

There simply isn't a market for a "serious" or "adult" portable console at the moment, and that's likely because everyone who is older than 12 or not a big nerd plays games on their phones and tablets. Their target market is already satisfied with their current gaming device (their phone).

If they had done some licensing with Disney, then they'd probably be selling billions of the things right now.

Ya after Christmas, I think I'll pick me up one. I have 3 PS Vita games to play but no Vita to play them on lol.

About the memory card still not being cheap enough, I'm pretty sure I can get a good sized one and I normally don't keep but a few games on at a time anyway. (I say that from experience with the PSP, may not be the same for Vita.)

I do agree with all this and even though that is sadly correct for most, I can't stand playing games on my phone/tablet. It's just not comfortable plus the lack of buttons and having your fingers in the way of the screen bug the hell out of me. I also want more hardcore/more in depth games like the ones I listed. (Ya I know minecraft and terraria are in phones/tablets but they suck to play on touch screens)

I enjoy playing games on my phone, as long as they're designed to work well with the interface. I sure as hell don't think that street fighter on a touch screen makes any sense at all and it blows my mind that it's even available. The whole ghost button thing covering half of the damned screen is enough to kill it for me.

I probably put 30+ hours into cut the rope when it came out. Loved that game!

YES ;D

That was definitely my favorite physics based puzzle game.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Well don't get me wrong, I do play games on my phone, it's just not my favorite way to play and my hands cramp up. Also like I said, I don't like my fingers being in the way of my screen.
I just cannot bring myself to spend money on many games that I will never own.

Sorry I'm a hard ass, hard headed, elitist. Lol.

This is just another example on why everyone needs a smart phone. Handheld gaming consoles are becoming less and less prevalent. The best experience is on Android and IOS. This is why smart phones are important, or another reason. Games, games, games.

The best experience is on Android and IOS.

Matter of opinion...one of which I completely disagree.  There's just something about mobile games that to me never really feel like real games.  I don't know how to explain it but it almost feels like they're lifeless and no matter what I do I never get into it like I do when I play my gba/ds/3ds/vita/etc etc.

I remember a few years ago I bought my first and only mobile game, Armor of Vay.  It was a sega cd game that I have always wanted to play and not owning a sega cd myself I figured this was a great alternative.  The game was decent enough, played it and beat it...but I did mostly because I paid for it.  Since I left IOS and moved onto android...and essentially lost the game.

I'm sure that there are some really good games on the mobile platform but it's just not a platform I particularly enjoy playing games on.  So it could end up being the future for most, I don't believe that it'll replace dedicated gaming handhelds.

Also, with current trends, no...not everyone needs a smartphone.  People hesitate to buy a 200+ handheld so I'm sure that there will be a lot more hesitation on buying a smartphone that costs 700+ every couple years just to play mobile games.

 ::) really?!
i have a vita, waiting for the biz, why i haven't touched this subject...til now. (missing the retail cartridge ad/or DLC archives for the psp side exploit.)
it's been stated about the vita mc's being shit on prices, but it's a matter of time, and what of spoofers in the future for the game cartridge, like ds and??????
looking into vita-tv, because i want it on the tube, and bluetooth pad in toe.
...
as for 'everybody needs METHS' statement, you're right, bar me for one.  :P
smart phones?
nothing 'smart' about them, and i get a very specific kick from ordinary console gaming.
so, NOT everybody needs one, basic telephones work best when needing to make calls/sms.  ;D

Really dude? Go fuck yourself with your god damned smart phone bs. I'm tired of your superiority complexed attitude when sadly everyone that's been here for longer than a few months knows you're a worthless moron.
Smart phones are outdated pieces of shit before they even hit the market. Best experience is on iOS and Android? Really, as I've said I can't stand playing games on my phone. Or are you too fucking blind to read what's already need said.

I asked for peoples advise on what they thought of the PS Vita and your "opinion" is not only worthless in this situation it's down right disrespectful how you always come off.

Man no wonder why people go postal.
