Hori PS2 Slime Controller has become sticky...

hoverboots:
I picked up my Blue Slime controller the other day for the first time in a long time, and it's pretty gross to the touch. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any remedies/ suggestions? It's made of a rubbery plastic material.
sheep2001:
I had that recently with a couple of USB hubs which had a rubbery/grippy surface.  It was like the rubber had degraded, leaving a sticky, unpleasant layer.   I tried cleaning them with all sorts of products, and every time they dried, they became more and more sticky - gave up and tossed them.
shenske:
I have the same issue with some of my PS2/PS3 controller sticks sometimes. I don't know why it happens to only some of them and not the others. Plus even more confusion is one has never been used and the other has been used frequently. Both still over time get "gooey" and i have to wipe them dry with a washcloth.

That really sucks... I'm afraid to use alcohol in case it hurts the plastic.
amiga1200:
if the plastic is ABS mould, it'll be fine to use alcohol, assuming it's isopropyl. (or the lesser of the evil, sugical spirits and methylated spirits.)

@ op.
if the pad works electronically fine, but it's gunked up, strip the pad down carefully (youtube has vids if searched) and clean ALL parts that have the sticky shit on it, just don't dowse the fucker like a salem witch trial.
...
a clean cotton rag and solution to hand should sort it.
have another clean rag for buffing.  ;D
