okay, not one for creating subjects unless they have something useful, like guides and downloads mostly.
the purpose of this subject is extremely clear.
would it be possible for the coders of this site to implement some sort of obfuscation or spoiler for videos and images, or the tag could effect anything within it's range?!
at various places i visit, it was an issue, one the staffs was all to keen to remedy as users were getting computers crashed for way too much going on screen. the same too much that is out of everybody's control who views a subject.
browser settings negate images and videos displaying, but removes any source links as a result.
...
looked at the recent stack of subject updates, and to put it bluntly, it crashes my machines (plural) as a result of too many images making it a hairtearing experience here.  :'(
so, can a collapse tag be implemented for image and video clip obfuscation?
thanks for reading.  8)
PS:
if there's already a collapse tag, please show it me, not finding it listed in the site tables.  ;D

I've never had this problem that you speak of.
Not have I really heard anyone else complain about load time due to too much going on on the screen, especially since there is no ads on this site.
What are you looking at? You think baby's don't like video games? THEN YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT BABIES!!

^^ must be using a really good machine, or have beyond capacity so it wouldn't be noticed?!
this ISN'T about advertisements , but actual images this board display when folks link em.
the CODE tag does have the effect of [collapse] by sterilization, the links still show.
what this is about, is ACTUAL USER LINKED IMAGES AND VIDEOS ONLY! (sorry, caps on purpose to drive that home.)
appreciate the input.  ???
[edit]
typo.

Well there are no video clips here (minor GIF maybe in signatures).

Some topics have many images (covers) but if your computer is crashing with those I suggest better computer.
Mine is low end (300 Euro of the shelf one) and no way it crashes here, and opens even the heaviest topics with ease, as did my 10+ year old cheapo computer.
I think this is the most image heavy topic at the moment:

Besides I think the crashing is more to do with bad internet.

ya!
expected as much.  :'( (get a new computer.)
i don't play on computers (only consoles) as they're tools of the trade.
my machine is a (pos) HP dcm 5800, 3g ddr ram, dual core cpu-2ghz each, pci-soundbalster, agp-nvidia geforce 210 (1g ram)
^^ the above is old, but not as old to run many games at full rates.
not many at todays requirements, but enough.
the graphics/audio cards was specifically bought to take stress off the machine, it helped a little.
hardware was tested, computer uses are just for text, imaging, archiving, converting and uploading, nothing else as it present various security risks.
...
nvm, bunk subject, sorry guys, blocks will have to be implemented, even at the cost of (some) subject visibility.  :'(

No need for new computer, specs are good enough, way higher than my ol PC.
Maybe cleaning the computer (software wise) helps.

Or it might be your internet connection.

thanks for the tip, machine is in tip-top condition, free of lint, and a minimal os. (xp sp3 student.)  ;D
once every two months, the panels get ripped off it, chassis disassembled, parts disconnected, the works.
a full interior service. (consoles get the biz once a year.)
if it's internet, then it just a DNS update issue at my isp side perhaps?
looking at various haunts, no lag. (but the same applies there: if too many users don't integrate [collapse] tags with their images/videos, browsers go to shit and computers lock up.)

I don't know what is wrong with your computer, but mine is quite low spec but my computer or this site never gets clocked when I'm here.

Not even in the old times that my netspeed was 1 meg/second, let alone now that I hit 50+

And not even at wotk where the hardware and connection are crappier.

Even now when I'm at work and upload images at the same time I'm here and watch YouTube video.

My guess is you have bad case of millenial complex... :P

^^ is that the best you can come back with?!
really?
where i'm stood, it doesn't look like you have a grasp on things here, and i really mean that.
seriously, how fuckin hard is the concept to grasp, and why is this one of the few places left to NOT have collapse tags as standard?
i wouldn't have made this subject otherwise, and thanks for 'considering' it's what separate public from locked up to the nines private places. :'(
...
all this was about was a bbcode integration, what a fail i must be?!  ::)

1: That was not a come back, but series wonderment of what the FUCK is wrong with your PC/Internet as nobody else here has this problem. :P

2: Most of us (if not all except you) want to see the preview of the cover immediately.

2: You can easily create condensed links manually if wanted, but again most of us don't want this. <- the period in that sentence is the condensed link.

and again the mark is missed by a zillion miles.  ::)
i take it you all have really good machines, to the point: fuck the little guys.
have you also heard of thumbnail board tags?
i really don't see that as an alternative available here, and it does help, even if the image is visible. (reduced image, handled by site frontend, expands to full size when clicked. collapse tags obscure whatever is wrapped in them, revealed when clicked.)
...
i think i understand the setup at TCP better, if none of the staffers are WAYYYYY into their forties, it explains much, and the lack of empathy.
....
drops mic.  :'(

Why do you have to take the role of victim all the time?

Arseen was trying to find out if you had a software problem, as not one of our thousands of other registered users has ever complained about graphics heavy threads crashing.  It has happened to me on an old tablet, but never on a desktop PC.

Now your actual request - it is actually a good idea.  Implementation of a spoiler tag would be the way to go imho, BUT, admins here are not web admins.  We're site admins.  We have no control over the back end.  Snowcone is the only person that can do these things, and unfortunately he's got too much real life to deal with to be around here much.  We're grateful he leaves the site running, and let's us get on with it, but we can't change it.   The sooner every new member understands this the better.

Bottom line is, if you don't like it around here, understand it's not going to change in the short term (or perhaps ever), so if that's a huge problem, please close the door gently as you leave........

And yes, I am in my forties.

victim?
real classy, i was speaking mind (roll on the B&)  ::)
no, there's NO software issue, sorry if i utter failed to clarify that.
what i do is serious, i assume here is too.
there's scripts in place across many places for this exact reason.
early days, staffs had to oversee, than tags.
failing that, auto-script, using the core of the tag.
so if user SPAM like fuck a chunk of images that puts imax to shame, the boards can auto-correct it IF you don't wanna do be hand, ort leave the option for users to use it.
...
i must be frequenting the wrong joints, folks just have courtesy for others by default, and staff go nuts when they make a point of ignoring it.
...
agreed, web admins aren't coders, but they have their ears, so as a user, sorry, one of the same when the balls of the bull are in hands. (true, it just takes longer for the chain of command. so who's the sysop/coder that actually runs TCP? i mean RUNS it, maybe owned even by the same?)
