PSP Best Game and Custom Firmware Q/A's.

Rx_79:
This is a little off topic but does having a UMD replacement case effect the game.  All my games have the original UMD case, but one Ace Combat.  The game loads the levels fine, but often skips the end of the cinema scenes.
amiga1200:
the UMD housings can be a hindrance, as well as protection.
he disk is the same as any optical media, dvd in this case. (albeit, a custom storage capacity, 2g a disk.)
as long as the actual disk and drive lens is clean, should make zero difference.
still, does this 'third party' housing grip the disk too hard?
if so, that will slow the motor down, stress it, create stream timeouts.
compare the disk to one still in original $ony UMD housing, if it still spins with the same consistency as an original, look at the disk itself for imperfections/scratches or dirt...and maintain.
outside that, the optical drive could be the issue?
one way to check the disk, is dump the UMD as a single file (iso) via pspfiler.
if it dumps without shitout, it's fine.
if the operation self-terminates, possible:
1, disk gripped too hard by the third-party housing slowing data transfer.
2, optical disk itself is scratched.
3, or the lens needs cleaning/potentiometer adjusting?.
 ;D
TDIRunner:
Third party case shouldn't have an effect unless it's a poor quality case.  Also, if a third party case was required, it's possible the disc has seen some bad days, and it might be damaged as well.

Got into the PSP a little late so most of my games are used. So this could be the real issue.

Didn't notice any scratches, but that doesn't mean a game store didn't resurface it. or that it was exposed to car heat. 3rd Party UMD case does seem to hold the game a little tighter but nothing I can see that would prevent it from turning.

I got into the PSP pretty late as well, but honestly, I don't feel like I missed much.  I've gotten very little enjoyment out of it which is part of the reason why I can't help out the OP at all with any suggestions.
