I just got lucky. I just happened to hop on TCP, saw the post and nabbed one of the last copies.

some of these latest ones have been lasting longer. Xeodrifter lasted till 7:30 on the 4th and Lost Sea made it all the way to 3:30 yesterday.
To me fair, if you are subscribed to their email they send out a bunch of reminders. I got at least 3 emails about these 2 being released. They also post a lot on Twitter if you use it.

Might be an issue with the creator of Axiom Verge and the release of the physical PC copy by IndieBox. Which is a really cool physical edition of the game.

Emails are useless if I still can't sit there on the web and wait (and I am signed up). I even had an alarm set on my phone, since they gave the approximate launch time, but I was too busy on the 4th. Just a stupid day to launch IMO.

I was at a 4th of July party myself. I did check my email about 30 minutes after things went on sale. However, I was able to make the complete transaction for both games from my phone. It took about 2 minutes. I do agree, it was a bad day to launch. Maybe that was the point as the games took a while to sell out.
