I've been going through the covers submitted/uploaded to the main site and... well... it wasn't good. I've probably filtered through half of the submissions (hundreds of covers) and didn't find any that meet site standards. Now, I did find nice Mario and Zelda covers but I don't want to post the 25th variation of the same cover that the site already has. This is what I'm getting at, if you've made a cover that you feel meets TCP's high standards, send it to me directly (via offline message) along with the source material (scan) you used to make the cover. This is what I'm looking for:

 - Source material should be scanned at 300 dpi or higher.
 - The cover should be made with Cover Project Templates. If logo's on our templates are out of date or low res, they should be replaced.
 - The barcode and fine print need to reflect the retail cover
 - Make sure the source material has been cleaned.

I think it'll be easier if I talk with you guys one on one.

You now understand why covers added to the site so rarely. :D

And by asking direct submissions the shitflood gets directed directly towards you, as is the rage when you dare nit pick or critizise.

Out of my entire time here on the site making verticals I don't think that I have ever submitted a cover for upload.  I know that quite a bit of the source material I used came from this site, unless it is something that I can find elsewhere or scan myself.

Before criticizing someone, walk a mile in their shoes. Then when you do criticize them, you will be a mile away and have their shoes.

Arseen, my eyes have been opened. In order to get quality covers posted, there has to criticizing and nit picking. I do understand that some users will rage but if they take criticizing well and eventually make a cover that'll meet site standards, I'll post it right away.

send it to me directly (via offline message)
This might be a stupid question, but what do you mean by this? Do you mean by e-mail, or through a PM? To me, an "offline message" sounds like a phone call or meeting in person.

A private message. If you look at the icons under the avatar of TCP members, one of them should say, "offline message", which is a private message.

Alrighty. I've never heard anyone call it that before.

I upload covers all the time that don't make it onto the site. And I follow the guidelines. And I notice a lot of covers that are on the site that are pretty bad. I'm open to criticism and would love to know what I'm doing wrong. As such, I've just been uploading them to my server and posting links in the various forums.

Probably you do nothing wrong , but the stuff just gets hidden in the avalance of poop.

And I notice a lot of covers that are on the site that are pretty bad.

Those are left from the time when there was less tight criteria for quality, and will be replaced when better ones are made.
As such, I've just been uploading them to my server and posting links in the various forums.

That is good way to do.

That's good to know. I'd like to think it's not because I'm doing something wrong. :)

But something I think would be a good idea is a critique thread where we can post covers and the cover admins and veteran cover artists can look at them and give advice on what needs to be fixed? Because regardless of how good I think my covers look, if something needs to be fixed, I want to fix it and I don't want to offer up a cover if it's not great.

@ Polygon,

I couldn't post your covers for the following reasons:

1.) Source material

2.) Skewed Images. Part of being a cover artist is that you have to figure out ways to make your covers without skewing the images. This can be a challenge sometimes. As far as I could tell, all your PSone covers were skewed.

3.) Information and cleaning. In general, you just needed to polish your covers. Some of them are super close. In some cases, your templates are out of date as they had low res logos. Make sure you have the latest templates.

Could I get some feedback on this cover:

Completed Cover:

Original Scans:

Thanks!

I haven't looked at it under a microscope but I think it's very good. It's a well constructed cover. However, the back has moire patterns. Whoever scanned it needed to use moire or noise reduction. From your end, you did well.

Well I used 47" Full HD TV instead of microscope.

It's pretty good but there are a lot of dirt, watermarks and hair on the front image.

I can see the moire but I doubt it will show when printed.

But yes, Very good cover.
