The link to the AvantGarde Medium BT font says for me it doesn't work due to it being taken down for copyright reasons. Can someone else clarify this or is it just me? If it's not just me, I have the original ttf file which I can upload to Dropbox and link here.

You're right, I didn't notice that. I did find it on another free font site, so it's fixed.

Kaiede, is the Super Famicom part of the template ready to go or is there more you wanted to do to it? I have a couple old covers ready to be converted if it is.

I mostly wanted to fix up the legalese portion. Shenske's vertical template uses the Japanese legalese blocks in place of the North American ones for Super Famicom titles and I wanted to do something similar there. I can probably do that sometime this morning or evening if you are willing to wait.

Sure, take your time.  :)

In the meantime, I've put together v1.0 of the Accessories Template. It includes Famicom, Super Famicom, NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, and Wii U. It also includes a bunch of icons for various controller adapters, including compatibility with Atari 2600/7200, Sega Genesis/Master System and others. If more icons are needed, they can be made and added to future revisions.

Download Accessories Template v1.0

Kaiede, take a look at how I created two groups of layers at the top for Famicom and Wii Elements. That might be a simple way to include this Famicom design in the games template. All the user has to do is toggle that group on when doing that system. If you think that will work and it looks good, feel free to add Famicom to your next template revision.

That's basically how I intended to do it. Doing "pop-out" with this technique is more steps though, but still doable.

I'm probably just going to edit the template in CS4 going forward, and do my covers in AF. It's just too painful doing exports from AF to PS right now without text box support.

Had an hour spare so tried to reacquaint myself with photoshop. Choosing a background colour that matched was quite hard. Originally had a pale orange but I felt this was more suitable. I'm crap at finding spare artwork for the backgrounds but here's a progress shot for Hagane.

When you aren't finding what you are looking for in a google image search try looking up the Japanese name. Google what the Japanese name is, copy and paste it into google. IE: Hagane in Japan is called "Steel"(鋼). Since Steel is so generic add Super Famicom (スーパーファミコン) to your google search and see what happens.

It doesn't always work but I've had good luck doing this over the years.  :)

Thanks to a friend giving me a Retron5 I actually picked up some Famicom and Super Famicom games. If anyone would like to put Dragon Quest 1-4 or Final Fantasy 4-6 in the pipeline to do eventually that would be fantastic. Something with a connected spine art would look great, everyone seems to be doing their own thing so I just figured if anyone happens to get around to it, would be awesome.

I've updated the template to 1.4 with your Famicom pieces, and with the tweaks I wanted to make. Making a Famicom/Super Famicom cover is a bit more involved now, since you need to also look at the 'Fixed Content' layer group and toggle the US/JP layer groups within that to get things to switch around for you. I don't yet know how to replicate your Cover Project banner, so the Super Famicom currently uses the SNES one. Feel free to address that. ;)

Also, the Japanese legalese may not be 100% correct. I used shenske's Vertical Template to grab the SFC parts, and then hacked away at it until I had something that appears to look correct for Famicom and Super Famicom. But since my Japanese is basically non-existent, I've probably done it wrong. So feel free to nitpick and offer corrections for that. Mostly trying to get that done for completeness sake, honestly. My SFC collection doesn't need custom covers really, just my SNES collection, but I do know others don't collect CIB SFC games that can use it.

Didn't think about searching with the non-romanized names myself. I'll have to keep that in mind too. Yeah, finding additional artwork is sometimes painful as all heck. Sometimes you get lucky, other times you are stuck finding new and inventive ways to crop the box art to slap it on the spine. ;)

Awesome. Well the good news is the template isn't bound to get much more complex now that we've included every Nintendo console.

EDIT: I noticed that the Famicom TCP banner was peeking out behind the NES banner by about 1 pixel, so I fixed that and went ahead and also added the SFC TCP banner too. https://app.box.com/s/dpknfyaw1gqqy761nz5ru2csc4sd4r57

Now that everything's all set up, I've made Famicom covers for Super Mario Bros., Super Mario USA, and Super Mario Bros. 3...

Super Famicom covers for Mario & Wario, and a custom cover for Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters (Kaijuu Daikessen in Japan, I'm using the title it would have had in North America according to Nintendo Power)...

Also, the first two accessories covers. These are controller adapters for GameCube that let you use NES and SNES controllers, made by RetroUSB.

Finally, 2 alternate covers for Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (repro) - one still titled "The Lost Levels" with the Japanese artwork, the other titled "Super Mario Bros. 2" with the Japanese artwork.

So, with the Famicom/Super Famicom template, there is a layer group you should probably toggle if you want the Japanese Legalese. Japan doesn't use the seal, either. It's under the "Background for All Systems" and has two groups, one for US, one JP.

For some reason I can't save NES covers as JPGs. Is this just me or something wrong with the template?
