That is right!

Often the cover "officially" available on the site has already been replaced by another one with better quality or is available with additional template designs.
...Unfortunately only hidden inside different threads and box.net (or whatever) accounts.

I would love to see a way of making all the cool work in the forums more visible on the main site.

For me the forum could be used to show the WIP and preview stuff.
But ALL the finished covers should be on the main site.
Would be way easier to select (or know about) the one you like the most.

but where would YOU draw the line at how bad a cover needs to be to get rejected?  Or would you accept absolutely everything?

The quality stance was adopted to stop the volume of shit covers on the site - there are already hundreds of shit ones uploaded that need replacing - accepting more just causes more of a headache.

I would agree that a number of those showcased on the board should be on the site - but the vast majority definitely should not.  Admins do not scour the boards to see what should/should not be accepted - we urge people to submit them if and when they are deemed to be close to perfect.  Fully cleaned, from a decent scan, and with the correct details.  I happily use lower quality ones myself when a good scan is not found (especially from older generation games like 2600) - but I still believe they should not be hosted here,  that's not what the ethos of the site is.  There are plenty of other cover sites on the net that accept lower quality covers, so people can always upload to those sites if they want to.

I would accept almost everything, but then have a A-D rating scale.  That way if you want only perfection, you can search by A scale and ignore the rest.   There was a custom DVD cover sight that used to do this.

Waste of bandwidth and storage.

You obviously haven't seen some of the shit that was getting submitted.

No of course i would not accept absolutely everything.

But i think if we wait until we have the "perfect version" we might wait forever for some covers while in the meantime a lower quality (no "shit cover") would be better than nothing at all.

Maybe an additional upload area with lower restrictions or "not yet rated but finished" covers would be okay.
Or some pinned threads for each system with a list of available covers beside the official ones....

I don't want to ask the admins to crawl through all the posts and check for good covers.
But i think it is unfortunate that some of the good work gets lost in the depths of the forum.
