| Beastman1975:
the 1st PS3's had backwards compatibility built in about a year ago they started to phase the ability out and all new models now only play PS3 games |
| XanderBoy:
Ummm, what? There's going to be a 160gb console released this fall which replaces the 80gb MGS4/Motorstorm packages, not to be confused with the current 80gb package with no backwards compatibility. This 160gb console is going to be released with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Basically they just doubled the capacity while keeping the features the same. Unless this announcement changed since then, you can still play your PS2 games on the soon to be released 160gb console if you haven't picked up a PS3 yet. I don't know what you mean by current, but I was just playing Katamari and God of War on my PS3 that I got in June. Yeah, there are some games that don't play well, but for the most part it plays very solidly, and they can be fixed eventually. For the record, I think it still looks best to match the PS1/PS2 spines. |
| sheep2001:
Europe phased out the PS2 compatibility very early on. So unless we import one, we are screwed. 60gig models (the last one with compat) change hands for silly money. |
| XanderBoy:
Ahhh, I see. That's a shame. |
| AppleQueso:
The US is phasing out backwards compatibility as well. In fact, the upcoming 160gb ps3 will NOT have backwards compatibility with the ps2. |
