Edit:

Alright peeps! I think I have my template 90% done. I'm sharing it with you now (and editing the first post). Any help to further upgrade the template (ESRB back labels, blu-ray logos, PAL design, etc.) would be appreciated.

Edit: February 12, 2009

Alright v1.0.1 has been completed. Here's what I have done:

- BLUS & Numbers are on their own layer.
- Attempted to add a layer for the "PSN Network" logo when the game isn't exclusive to the PS3.
- Adobe Photoshop file created (.PSD)

Things that still need to be worked on for now:
- Adding additional ESRB logos & other territory logos
- Need to find a better quality PSN logo to replace the current "PSN Network" logos at the top of the front and back.

Again, the site is welcome to host these on TCP.net's site if an admin is capable.

Sorwah's PS3 Blu-ray to DVD template (v1.0.1):
Adobe Photoshop (.PSD): http://www.sendspace.com/file/ojvnr4
Paint Shop Pro (.PSPIMAGE): http://www.sendspace.com/file/36zwtd

Here's some examples of the template:

What if the next PlayStation system comes in a non-DVD case?

Well I say we keep using DVD cases regardless. Would you rather tackle these as they come out or have to re-case ALL of those old ps2 and ps1 cases?

I could say the same thing for the next Nintendo Handheld, yet people are converting GBA to DS cases. What if the next Nintendo handheld comes in a non-DS case?

Besides, it's more so for fun. It's also easier to get a hold of a blank DVD case instead of a blank Blu-ray PS3 case. Blu-ray cases aren't universal across the ponds. For example, PAL movie cases are thicker (spine-wise) than the american counterpart.

Besides, not like there's a slew of PS3 games coming out these days. I'm only looking to do my three games: LittleBigPlanet, Heavenly Sword, and Metal Gear Solid 4. Plus there's that demand for the MGS Essentials vol 2 to be made into DVD case as well. It's just another option for people really.

Which reminds me. There's been fair demand for an MGS Essentials collection styled DVD case for MGS4. Honestly I'm surprised there hasn't been one even attempted yet.

I don't think I'd print them off myself, but if I did I'd go with either option #1 or #3.

My vote goes for #1 - it fits in with the vast amount of existing PSX and PS2 cases here, plus the Spiderman font is yuck imo  :(

I think you should attempt a vertical ps3 template as well, so it still aligns with the original.

The problem is that the covers ratio well from Blu-ray to DVD size. Putting a PS3 on the side would make the area for covers too skinny.

I could see what I could do, but moving the Playstation 3 logo to the top of the cover is best and easier for adjusting the ratio of the cover art.

All of these look rather incomplete without some kind of trim (white or otherwise) around the top sections of the front and spine. Also I think the (R) mark should be after the 3, and not between 'PlayStation' and '3'. Nice job overall, though.

Funny you should mention that. I was doing the exact same thing (Note on the below image, the white trim follow the spine black boxing, just the resize didn't carry it over). And no, the registered trademark symbol goes after the PlayStation since that's the trademark. the number isn't trademarked. It's the same with any legal text and the PlayStation 2 logo. Also, these are betas. I'm looking to get some opinions on what people like to see/be done so I can decide what might help make it "pop":

I like the first of the new three, with the Spider Man font on the front but not spine, and gradient from white on the left to black on the right.

Thanks  ;D. Yeah I like the grey to black, but it looked awkward with the spine black so I tried the other way. Both look good to me. Thanks for your input! Anything else?

On a side note: can anyone try up'ing a RAW of MGS4?

I came up with a variant of your template that you might consider, forgive the sloppy resizing but it's just a mockup -

It has consistent typefaces, as well as gradients, what do you guys think?

You can get it here - http://aanhorn.spymac.com/coverproject/ps3dvdtemplate.psd.zip
