So I shop GS very rarely.  Like if they have a B2G1 free sale pretty much.  But the other day I saw online they had Tales of Hear R on sale new for $30.  I was all about it.  Bought it new.  I got it in the mail today and its opened gutted copy with sticker residue on the game box and stickers on it.  Since when do the fucking gut games they sell online holy fuck am i pissed.  I would return and just buy it on Amazon but they are charging $47 since the game was only released threw GS.  I used to work at GS for 4 years and would bitch about there practices to the DM but of coarse corporate people don't care.

That's why I won't order from GameStop online in a million years. When I buy from them locally, I examine what I buy and 99% of the time, I only buy new.

Na it had the "NEW" sticker on it and had the dumb clear "seal" on the opening they do.

I bought that game online from the bandai namco website. It is $30 right now.  My gamestop only got one copy and of course it was open.

We have another store here in town that I like to browse but about a year ago they changed the store layout and started opening NEW games and putting the case on the shelf.  I bought my wife and myself Final Fantasy 14 RR and Heavensward to play while she works in another state.  Well the clerk was taking the discs out of papersleeves and then UNFOLDING, I repeat UNFOLDING!!!! the paperwork that goes inside and putting back in the case.  At this point I had to say something and told him that them opening NEW games is the worst business practice ever.  He said that he agrees but he can't do anything about it.  Then he puts a crap bag around it and I told him not to seal the bags and he said that he had to, he is the manager...

Then fast forward to a few weeks and my wife picked up J-Stars Vs from there NEW and the case was broken.  She was pretty upset that the case was broken and for some reason didn't want me to go exchange the case for a new one.

I really hate this new structure that companies are adopting.  I tell myself I won't buy this way and would rather walk away.  But with Realm Reborn she was leaving in a day so I didn't have time and no other stores had the game in the area.

To a point, I understand why this do this.  If they put a case out on the shelf, it's less likely to be stolen if there is no disc inside.  However, they should only do this for ONE copy of the game, and keep the rest of the unopened games behind the counter.  That way if you want to buy it, they can give you an unopend game.  Once they are down to their last game, they can sell you the opened copy, but, in my opinion, they should offer some type of discount (even 5%) to compensate for the fact that the item is opened.  If my opinion, anything that is opened is no longer new.  You can advertise it as "unused," but not "new."
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

This particular store used to have everything behind a gate.  The manager actually told me they do that so people can read the back of the game.  The gate I was fine with because I could stick my hand through and look at games.  I used to love going there because they would mark games as used but they were actually still in the wrapping.  It was their way of selling it cheaper to get rid of it.  I got Sonic All Star Racing like that and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep (which they had alot of copies of).

I wanted to give more back story but I totally agree with you.  They should do 5% off if they sell you a new game that has been opened.

They should do what a lot of Best Buys do, Put a colotr photo copy in a dvd case and put THAT on the shelf.  Keep the games sealed.

With the constant complaints from gamers of all ages, I'm surprised GameStop's still in business. I don't even see their commercials on TV anymore, so "people being generally stupid" is the only reason I can think of, for why they're still open. I actually worked for them on two different occasions, pulling Christmastime shifts in '99 and '06. The first time around it wasn't too bad; they still resembled FuncoLand a lot, and treated most customers fairly. But by the time I came back, the insanity was in full swing...and I haven't shopped there much since. I think the last purchase I made was my used copy of "Metroid Prime Trilogy", and that was over a year ago.

Gamestop Knows its days are numbered , walk into any store and you'll see tons of crap youd find in a spencers or hot topic , they are scrambling to find other cash cows besides games , they've Oversaturated  almost every market  they are in with multiple stores ( used to be 6 within a 10-15 mile radius near me ) , and with all the major consoles and game developers trying to push digital sales they arent goin to make the profit they used to .  I prefer to shop at the 1 MOM & POP gamestore at my area but they get screwed out of exclusives and  sometimes their new releases get delayed  because distributers cater to the big  stores like lamestop wall mart etc.  but even that MOM & POP needs to open at least 1 copy for display but what they do is scan the cover and put that out in a generic case and but the original  in a baggie kinda like a comic book bag  ( no harm done to the case )

I don't have many options where I live to find some cheap games to add to my collection.  As bad as Gamestop is I still like to stop in and do a couple preorders and chat with the guys that work there.  One of which is a really cool guy that I share alot of interests with.  Even ran into him at Emerald City Comic Con this year which we live several states away from, weird.

I have also found quite a few hard to find games which is when I bust out the $10 off coupon and get a rare game for really cheap.  For example I have found both CIB Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon and Digimon World Dusk.  I think I ended up paying $15 for each at the time.
