I arrived to work at 14:00.

Not 10 minutes later boss calls that the night shift worker is sick, so would I do that too.

I answered: "Sure, it's the same whether I stay up all night at home or at work." ;D

So 8 hour evening shift is now 17 hour evening + night shift... 7.5 hours to go.
I like the salary laws here: Saying yes was automatic 55 Euros.
And after 8 hours I get 50% extra per hour, so night time is 100% extra + 50% day overtime = 250% salary for 9 hours.

And tomorrow might be the same... and even day after that.

If I do tomorrow and day after that, week hours overtime limit is broken at 37.5 hours = 50% after that rest of the week and 5 hours later it goes to 100%.
This leads to ridiculous accumulation as I already had 51 hours scheduled, and add to that the extra 27 hours, and the fact that the last hours will be night work and some are on weekend.

The last 35.5 hours will be double pay (as they all happen to be at night = +100% pay) +100% (week overtime) = 300% salary.
It gets better as of those 9 will be on Saturday = +50% = 350% salary, and 7 will be on Sunday = +100% = 400% salary.

After typing this I realized it actually also breaks the 3 week limit of 114,75 hours by huge margin so all these will cause 40 or so hours at the and of the cycle be +100% hours also, so technically it would be that the Sunday night hours are 500% salary hours (in actuality they will be +400% and the +100% hours will be at the end, but money-wise it's the same).

Work-a-holics unite!!!

Extra hours means extra money to buy games.  ;D

Extra hours means less time to play games.  :'(
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Buuuuuut.  No time to enjoy life if your so many hours!

Work to live, not live to work........says me who is effectively on call 24/7.  Good job we have low maintenance guests in most of the time.

Well the evening shift was normal buzy, no rush but no lazying around either.

But the night shift... so far I've eaten, watched TV and talked with other night shift workers on the other ward... and typed here... ;)

I could bring my console here and play on the 50" TV we have here.

Currently the actual work takes 60 minutes total of the 9 hours scattered around the schedule. few minutes here few minutes there.

Arseen must be crazy tired  :o

Nah I woke up at 13:30 like after sleeping 8 hours or so.
So staying up the next 17 hours is easy.

Besides our ward has empty bed... ;)

awesome pay and legal system. Maybe I move to Finland  :P

Welcome.

After being here as long as I have, I've been kind of curious what everyone does for a living.  I thought about starting a thread, but wasn't sure if people would think it was too private.  I don't really want to know the names of businesses that people work for.  I am more curios what kind of profession everyone was in.

I'm an accountant for a manufacturing company.

I think the English term is Registered Practical Nurse in home healthcare.

We have 5 places in which we work:

- 1 assisted life house.
- 1 house for mentally handicapped.
- 1 rowhouse for people that need some super vision.
- 1 complex of 10 houses (34 apartments) for people who are fully independent but need help in minor things like laundry or some looking after.
- 1 drive around person.

I'm usually the drive around person: I drive around the town and surrounding rural area and take care of the basic health care issues including medicare, blood pressure measuring, injections... and help in bathing... and occasionally hit the bar.

During night time we mostly just make sure that the patients in the Assisted life house stay in bed, and take emergency calls from around the municipality (we get maybe one call per 4 months... ;) But we must by law provide the service so ambulances don't need to go give a person a glass of water... ;D).
