Nintendo has a lot riding on NX - so what do you want to see it be when it is released? Feel free to look at it as either what you personally want, or what you think Nintendo needs to do to become a major player again.

Some options (not an exhaustive list by any means):

A: Basically just a Wii U with PS4-matching hardware. Retains backwards compatibility.

B: A microconsole with a classic-styled controller, for Virtual Console games and downloadable-only titles.

C: A traditional gaming system, but more powerful than anything that is currently out.

D: An extremely powerful handheld that merges the Wii U and 3DS lines into a single hybrid product, interface-wise.

E: An attempt to capture interest with some gimmick that no one else is currently using. Surprise innovation, if you will.

F: Some kind of VR play, maybe a completely self-contained headset.

G: Redesigned hardware (think Wii U 'slim'), a price cut, multiple high-profile games and some aggressive advertising is all it will take for people to want the Wii U!

H: It doesn't matter what they do now, they are dying a slow death and NX won't stop that.

I: There's nothing wrong with the Wii U, and announcing NX is just going to hurt Nintendo now.

C with D as controller, with E anf F if done properly.

And I want true sequel to Super Mario 64, not 2.5D tube running ala Super Mario 3D World.
Add RPG like XP system where you get new skills by levelling up.

Will NX support 3d games or just 8 and 16 bit?

How cheap will the games be? And is there any benefit to owning 8 and 16 bit games when there are already countless amounts of them out there? I'm just saying. Why not just make games for the older consoles? How is this one different? It sounds good, but will this console last long? How is it any different than all the retro consoles?

I just want the next system to combine home and portable consoles into one system.  It needs to be more powerful than PS4/Xbox One.

And fully backwards compatible with AT LEAST:
•   Wii
•   Wii U
•   DS
•   3DS

I say “at least” because it would be really cool for them to somehow incorporate backwards compatibility with all older Nintendo consoles.  I realize that having cart slots for all of those older systems would be cost prohibitive, but how awesome would that be?
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I want them to do away with the tablet control and add gamecube backwards compatability.  Maybe remote play with the new 3ds too.

I haven't bought a Nintendo tv console since the gamecube just because both of the wiis seemed so gimmicky to me.  And the library seemed so limited.

Even if it was only for a couple of years, it'd be so cool to say that Nintendo has the most powerful console, after being behind for the last few.

However, I only just got my Wii-U so it'd be great if Nintendo could just ride it out for the next 2-3 years, get some amazing 3rd party games and wait to see what Sony and Microsoft do with the 'PS5' and 'XBOX TWO'

I feel like power is the reason why Nintendo isn't getting third-party support now, and third-party support is what is killing them when people think about buying a Wii U.

People don't think "The Wii U has Super Smash Brothers, Mario, Splatoon" etc., instead they think "If I buy this I won't be getting X' with X being pretty much every third party game.

By that math, the list of 'deficiencies' in the Wii U lineup is longer than its list of positives, making it look worse than it is.

---

My vote, using my own options, is A/F/I because:

A: They need to close the power gap, which will both make third-party development less work (since porting will become a more straightforward process) and remove one of the largest knocks against it. After all, look at how much flak the Xbox One has gotten for what amounts to a 5-10% difference in power, and consider, the Wii U has it 5 times worse!

F: I think Nintendo's penchant for simpler, more colorful games would translate better to VR (at its current level of technical sophistication) than 'traditional' big-budget games will. And I would love to see Metroid Prime in VR. The fact that in-universe you are wearing a helmet makes the 'I've got a thing on my head' aspect of VR go from being an irritation to being immersive!

As long as they don't call it 'Virtual Boy 2', they'll be fine.

I: Announcing the NX makes it feel like Nintendo is holding back for the NX release. And yes, they DO need to have a killer lineup when it launches, but what they don't need is anything that creates the impression that the Wii U is low-priority for Nintendo, especially not with the NX launch at least a year out.

With what I've seen, it is going to be D, though from what seems to be implied (the NX will be less powerful than the PS4), there is a good possibility that the end result may be H.

Nintendo NX is Nintendo's next system. Wii 3 if you will

We don't know that just yet. It could just be an OS that runs on handhelds and consoles.

Games.

Nintendo has to create a system that publishers see as lucrative. It has to be easy to port the same games to the NX as it is for the PS4 and X1.

I can see a portable/home console hybrid, but Nintendo needs to stop being gimmicky. I think the Wiimote was an anomaly, and the Wii U tablet a failure.

And they really need to catch up in the digital market. They have the biggest library of games that they can reach into, however they rarely put them onto the eShop. They don't feature cross-buy/cross-save, they don't have achievements/trophys, and they still don't facilitate team voice chat.

A system with free/cheap access to back catalogue, all the way back to its roots.  Less bothered with wii compatibility - with an achievement/trophy system.

I don't much care for online gaming, but online leaderboards would be fun.

High spec, no gimmicks.  Solid hardware that's easy to develop for.

Home brew friendly out of the box.  Dangerous for piracy issues, but the PS1 managed it with the net yaroze.
