I got my new shelf in today, I'm still filling it. It's great for CD/NES/DS. Ok for DVD. The way they fit wit ha lot of wasted space, for DVD cases only the shelf supports 6 shelves, from top to bottom. You can't even make a smaller shelf at the top because the peg holes stop at CD height. Still it's solid, sturdy and only was $200. I want 2 more.

Very nice.  I'm looking at something similar.  The only problem with the one you're using that wouldn't work for me is the fact that the base sticks out an inch on either side which won't allow you to butt these up against each other side by side.  Other than that, they are very close to what I'm thinking about getting.  I've been wanting to build my own for some time now, but I have to be realistic enough to know that I just don't have time for that right now in my life.  Assempling pre-made shelves is one thing, but building from scratch, and more importantly, finishing (paint or stain) is just too much for me right now. :-\

This is one example of what I'm looking at.

assembling a custom shelf shouldn't take any longer than building one of these flat packs.  Get the DIY store to cut all your wood to the size you need, and the rest shouldn't be any more complicated than a self assembly kit.  Easiest way is to measure out what you'll need for the frame first - get that cut, and screwed to the wall - attach a low profile adjustable shelf support system to it (such as these http://www.daro.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/450x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/2/8/283.00.510p1.jpeg) - then measure up for your shelves, and get them cut, and slide them in.

Obviously you'll have to paint/finish them - but honestly that takes no real time at all.

I get what you are saying, but I can't attach to the wall.  For my situation, they must be self contained shelving units that can be moved from place to place.  I also need fully adjustable shelves so I can change between CD, DVD, UGC or whatever as my needs change.  All of this adds time and complexity to the building of a custom shelving unit.  Finishing often takes multple days as one coat is rarely enough.  I can assemble a store bought shelf out of the box in 20 minutes, but there is no way I can build a custom shelf in that amount of time.  I would love to do it as I really enjoy projects like this, but for the amount of shelving I need, I just know it isn't going to happen any time soon.  :'(

Found a hardcover copy of Capcom 30th Anniversay Character Encyclopedia for $2 at Ollies. Couldn't help but purchase it immediately. :)
