Some people say 360 looks better than PS3 on most multi plat games. I do know that to be true for Bayonetta 1, but haven't tested it too much on other games. Some say they like first persons better on 360 but 3rd persons better on PS3. Why would size of controller matter for first person?

Now my friend wanted me to buy all multi plats on PS3. He said his feelings were hurt when I got the Genesis collection on the 360. But I guess he's a fanboy that doesn't know what a fanboy is. He thinks that Xbox bit off of Playstation and wouldn't buy anything Xbox related if a gun was put to his head.

I do notice that some 360 games look pretty vibrant. I like the way Ninja Gaiden 2 looks. Now I know that might not be a very big difference but would you say that because the 360 was easier to develop for that a lot of multi plats tend to look better?

Fighters better for PS3? I don't know why I just feel PS3 would be good for fighters
First persons for 360? Just seemed more like a first person system.

I've always been more of an Xbox person, so all of my multiplats go on my 360. My PS3 is basically for exclusives only which is fine with me because the PS3 has quite a number of good exclusive titles, especially compared to the 360. I would ultimately go with whatever controller you are more comfortable with. I don't believe you're going to find much of a difference in resolution between the two, so I wouldn't base my decision off of that. The main points I would consider:

1. Controller - you're most likely going to be spending more time with the one you buy the multiplats for so you would want the most comfortable controller
2. Social Gaming - if you want to have the best social features like in-game chat, parties, chats then Xbox definitely beats Playstation in this category
3. Online with Friends - However if all of your friends that you play online with are on PS3 then the previous point is moot

Based on my own opinion and situation, Xbox was the clear choice for me.

Another related topic that I have yet to decide on, what about series that start on one company's systems and then branch out? For example Rayman originated on Playstation but feels more like a Nintendo type of game so I would prefer to get the whole series on Nintendo consoles, however the first few games are PS1 exclusive (physical release). GTA, Mega Man, Final Fantasy are some other examples of this.

I've always liked xbox controllers. I think original xbox is pretty underrated, especially right now. The wide range of quality titles, low prices, and noticeable refinement compared to many of their ps2 counterpart versions make it one of my systems of choice.

I agree with most of those points.  However, I'm a PS guy myself and I much prefer the PS controller over the Xbox, so for that reason, I buy multi plats for PS3 and exclusives for Xbox 360.

However, one more point to make would be multi plats that have exclusive content on one platform.  One example is Tome Raider Underworld.  Since I prefer the PS controller, I prefer the PS version of the game.  However, I also bought the 360 version because it had DLC that was only available for the 360 including extra levels and outfits.  So I play the 360 version for those extra levels.  Now, buying multilpe copies of the game may sound wastefull, but I bought the 360 version used for pretty cheap.

Yup, I'm a ps controller guy too.  Always preferred it. I don't think there is any discernible difference graphically or performance wise on multi plat games on PS3 to 360, But I also agree that a lot of games were nicer on original Xbox over the ps2.  Added to that, I've got a modded xbox with coin ops 7 on it, which is fantastic.

I actually also prefer the online and store on the PS3 (although the store is painfully slow).  My 360 is virtually never switched on.

It depends on the generation of consoles as the answer to your question can greatly differ with each wave on consoles.

For the PS3 / XB360 generation:
--
Through and through the PS3 is a more powerful system than the 360 but that doesn't necessarily mean the games ran better or smoother on the PS3. Developers know there is a larger install base for the 360 so that is their main priority when making their game. This holds especially true when a game is released primarily for the North American market (360 outpaced the PS3 by a pretty decent margin).
--
They can afford to make the 360 a priority and basically port their project to the PS3 as the extra horsepower helps. Its not perfect though and hiccups occur resulting in some degraded PS3 games (lower framerate, resolution, overall buginess). Look to Bethesda games  ::) . The majority of their customers are happy (larger install base, 360) and this is not nearly as noticeable with the games that don't push the hardware.
--

Personal Preference: I got most multiplatform games on the 360 with the exception of games in a series and fighting games. I kept my Demon Souls and Dark Souls together on PS3. There are far more controller options on PS3 for fighting games (arcade sticks, saturn controller clone, most USB controllers).

For example Rayman originated on Playstation but feels more like a Nintendo type of game so I would prefer to get the whole series on Nintendo consoles ...

Well, more accurately Rayman was a Jaguar game and had some nicer features added to the PS1 version.  ;)

Those are good points, but it's worth mentioning that the PS3 and 360 sold damn near the exact same number of units.  So the larger install base is dependent on the country you are talking about.  The 360 greatly outsold the PS3 in the states, but it was the exact opposite in Japan.

Yeah, i know it is much closer worldwide. That is why i was saying " This holds especially true when a game is released primarily for the North American market (360 outpaced the PS3 by a pretty decent margin)."  Many companies (even eastern developers) prioritize their development to appeal the the western market. More consumers apt to buy their product. So in many way the US sales dictate development patterns (not in all cases obviously).

Everyone knows Japan hates the western developed systems  :D

I figured you knew it, but I was posting it there for others.

The 100 million units for the Wii still blows my mind.  I've always said that the thing that saved Nintendo during that generation was the fact that they stopped trying to compete with Sony and Microsoft and just did their own thing.  Basically, no one tried to decide between Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft.  Everyone bought a Wii ALONG WITH trying to decide between Sony and Microsoft.  It's the first generation where it ws extremely common to own more than one console at the same time from the same generation while the systems were still in production.  It was certainly the first time I ever did that.  In fact, I ended up owning all three systems before any of the next gen systems came out.  Another first for me.

Yeah, I completely agree. I know quite a few people who were on the Microsoft or Sony side of last generation all had a Wii to. Last Generation was either the combo "Wii60" or "PSWii"

... or you could be like me and own 2 Wii's personally and have purchased 4 more for family members.

We technically have two Wiis because my wife and I each had one before we got married, but my wife left hers at her parents as we have no real use for a second one.  There are also a lot of Wii's in our family as well.  My parents have a Wii and they are in their 60s.  First video game system my Dad has played since the SNES which was the last time he ever played video games on a regular basis (Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country).  Hell, my Grandmother's retirment home has one in the rec room.  She is in her 90s...........  Another reason of why they sold so many damn units.  :)

I don't like fps games, but I think 360 is thought of as better because of the controller.

I have 5 wii's! 1 in each house and a spare.  ;D

  • Think off-center.
I like this topic seeing as it can spawn another topic with which multiplat game is worth getting on either console (if someone was so inclined to do). I'll echo what some of the guys have already said about the PS3 and go with the controller and friends list there. I have nothing against the 360 controller either (I have x-large hands and they both are comfortable to play with). This would also start and "achievements vs. trophy's" topic  :P. I started with the 360 and transitioned over to the ps3 when I got tired of paying for gaming online so that too can come into play when choosing over the 2.

For some reason I myself like to play FFS on the 360 and a lot of people do too. But why is that? Why would the genre of a game dictate a different controller? A game is a game. I don't know why either, it just feels right to play a ffs on a 360 controller. But I want to know why people feel that way. Is it because of the analog and the fact you need to be able to control it in a sensitive way and that position is better for the thumb? That's the only reason I can think of. And how does the PS3 controller have more options for fighting?
