@TDIRunner
What did you have? I'm assuming a VW (but could be wrong though), I have a black on black 97 Jetta VR6 and I runs great! The down side is the previous owners did a horrible job of taking care of it. I've been slowly fixing it back up but it's turning into a money pit and have already way exceeded the value of the car and still need to put another $3000 just to get it back to stock looks and fix issues with it. Then I also drive a hoped up 88 Silverado (black or course lol) sadly cancer is starting to take over it and one of my X's wrecked it...
@Thom
Oh you bet. If I am able to get it and when, there will be loads of pics.
Those VR6s were interesting engines.
It was a 2006 VW Jetta TDI with the 5 speed manual. It was a great car. When I bought it, I was driving my V8 Ram 30k miles a year while getting 14 mpg (you can do the math there on fuel costs....

). So I bought the TDI which averaged 45 mpg for me over the years I owned it. The car paid for itself in fuel savings and also keep a lot of miles off of my truck which I still own now. The truck was only getting about 3k miles a year which was great.
Now, I'm only averaging about 12k miles a year (moved to a different state and found a job closer to home). Also, the TDI was starting to cost me some money in repairs. I typically do my own auto maintenance and auto repairs, but with my 1 year old son now, I just don't have time to be fixing something different each week. I still do my own maintenance, but that's easier to plan around my schedule. Basically, I couldn't justify the two separate vehicles. But if one had to go, it had to be the TDI because I use my truck way too much to not have it. And I love that truck. It's my favorite vehicle I've ever owned. I won't get rid of it until I can afford to get a 3/4 ton diesel crew cab. I eventually want to get a 5th wheel camper, and I'll need the bigger truck to tow it. But that will be many years down the road.
My VW was the first one I've owned, but my family has had many VWs. My mom used to have a '97 Cabrio which would be pretty similar to your '97 Jetta. She also had an '88 Cabriolet and currently has an '07 New Beatle Convertable. She has loved each of her VWs, but I will say that VW really needs to work on their electrical issues. 19 years separate our oldest to newest VW and each one has had electrical issues.

How is your truck setup (cab, engine, drivetrain)? I drove a '91 Chevy in high school, but that would have been a different body style than yours. Mine was a '91 C1500 Cheyenne W/T. Standard cab, long bed, 2WD, V6, stick shift. It had A/C, but that was about it. Pretty basic, but great high school vehicle.
