Ok guys, I looking for opinions. I've been collecting quite a bit for the last 20 years of my life and really enjoy my collection. I like diving and swimming in my collection like Scrooge McDuck. I highly enjoy looking at it AND playing my games.

But here is the thing, there are a lot of games I do not like to play that I have.

Here is a little backstory before I ask my question.

I graduated high school in '04. I've been a car enthusiast ever since I was a kid, (along with collecting games)
More of a muscle car kind of guy. Had a '71 RS Camaro project, a '67 Couger XR7 project, a '71 Chevelle that actually ran but needed work, and a '71 Monte Carlo that I actually drove back and forth to high school in and thankfully out of all these cars I kept this one. It is now a project car that needs much TLC to get back on the road, running good, and looking good.

But in 2003 they introduced the new 2004 GTO but I've never been able to get one. Since then better and more reliable models have come out. The 06 model has been my dream car ever since.

Now on to my question.

Like I said I love my collection. But here is the deal I don't enjoy playing around 3/4 of my games and stuff. And if I sold it all, I could most likely buy my dream car straight up.

If you were me would you sell your stuff?

I guess I don't understand what your asking. You have games you don't like and you have a car project you want to work on. Are you asking if you should sell games you don't like to fund your car ambitions? The answer is yes, sell them! I personally don't have any games I don't like in my collection.

I think that's what he is getting at (although I think part of the message is missing).  I would agree.  If you can use the cash, sell the games you don't like.

For me personally, I rarely buy games that I don't like.  The only time I would do it would be for something that is really collectable or notorious for being bad (Plumbers Don't Wear Ties for example).  However, I've acquired many games I don't like by buying large game lots that included a lot of filler.  As a collector, I don't plan to get rid of those games, but at the end of the day, it woudn't pain me to get rif of them to raise some cash.

The only problem is that, if you are anything like me, the games that I don't care for are also not worth very much.  I doubt I would raise much money at all if I just got rid of the games I didn't like.

Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Ya what I'm saying, is, should I sell off my collection I don't enjoy PLAYING to actually buy the car I've dreamt about since I was 16ish.

I've got reliable work vehicles, but I just don't enjoy them so much and they aren't the type of vehicle I would want to drive on a nice long trip.

Like others said: Save the games enjoy and get rid of the rest.
It might sting a bit... but driving your dream car will ease the pain. ;)

Easy answer if it were me...  Definitely sell those games you don't actually enjoy playing.  As gamers, I think we all can appreciate a bunch of shelves filled with oodles of games, even if we don't play them all.  But if selling off a bunch that you're just not going to ever play or just don't enjoy playing can help you in achieve a dream, that seems like a no-brainer really.  At least to me.  Sure, you might miss seeing your game shelves filled to capacity for a bit, but once you hop in your dream car I think you'll forget all about those games that were just looking pretty while collecting dust.

No, and No.

Yes there was one big problem that was recalled in the 2004 models. It was a set of wires that weren't properly secured in the dash and would rub until fully exposed then catch on fire. They fixed this in the 05 and 06 models.

They stopped production of this car in 06. The company replaced the GTO with the G8 which was a bigger and bulkier version of the GTO and it was a family sedan. The company lived on until 09.

No single car caused Pontiac to close it's doors. It was just the company didn't make enough money as a whole. And since General Motors (and Chrysler) were already in a bunch of debt in the first place, they decided to close the doors to the Pontiac division.

Just like a lot of other vehicle manufacturers. (AMC, Oldsmobile, and Vector to name a few) it's not that they were bad vehicles. In fact they were really good. Just not very popular.

The GTO and the G8 were some of the best cars Pontiac released in the last 10 years of it's life.  And the 2006 was definitely the year to get for GTO.

I came very close to getting a G8 a while back.  I almost kind of wish I had since at the time, GM was liquidating the remaining Pontiac stock with major discounts and that made one year old models with approximately 20k miles dirt cheap.  I think the only thing that kep me out of it was the fact that, outside of the supercharged model, you couldn't get a stick shift, and that is usually a deal breaker for me.

I agree though I still like the GTO over the G8. (Mainly due to me not liking 4 door cars much.)
They did make some nice cars. I guess if you want one like it, you could just order a Holden since that's pretty much what both cars were. :P

Looks like I'm going I have to liquidate myself now.

I had a 2005 Grand Prix up until a few months ago.  I sold it along with my TDI (I know, my member name doesn't make sense anymore :P) after we bought the minivan.

It was a decent car.  Never gave us any trouble.  I just want' a fan of the way it drove.  However, I loved the previous generation Grand Prix, especially the GTP.  My dad had the Buick version of the GTP ('97 Regal GS).  That car was a great "sleeper."  No one ever expects to get their doors blown off by a Buick.  I embarrassed a lot of sports car owners back in the day.

I'm a big car guy as well, so I understand the situation you are in.  Right now I'm not really setup with the sportiest of vehicles.  However, I accept that because of my family.  Eventually down the road, I'll get something a little more fun to drive.  Right now, I just have my 2007 Ram 1500 (V8, quad cab, 4x4, six speed manual) and my wife's Town & Country, plus a Yamaha Kodiak 450.  I love my truck and with the amount of stuff I haul and tow, I have to have it.  My wife's minivan is actually a fantastic vehicle to drive.  I don't regret buying it one bit.  It's a million times more practical than any crossover.  The only downside is that you have to say you own a minivan.  You get over it quick.  And the Kodiak is great for getting a little muddy (by which I mean covered from head to toe  ;))

I can identify with you as I'm a fellow gear head. Sadly, my health prevents me from enjoying that hobby much anymore. However, I think the answer is simple. Sell the games you will never play. I love collecting and playing games too. However, if I don't like a game or don't intend to play it I won't buy it unless I can flip it to further my collection.

If you have lots of games you are never intending on playing, then sure, sell them and put them towards the car. But I mean NEVER, EVER planning on playing, not just 'not interested in playing right now'. I've sold some things thinking I had no interest in them, only to later wish I had kept them - wouldn't want that to happen to you!

You will, of course, be required to show pictures of your car when you get it.  8)

@TDIRunner

What did you have? I'm assuming a VW (but could be wrong though), I have a black on black 97 Jetta VR6 and I runs great! The down side is the previous owners did a horrible job of taking care of it. I've been slowly fixing it back up but it's turning into a money pit and have already way exceeded the value of the car and still need to put another $3000 just to get it back to stock looks and fix issues with it. Then I also drive a hoped up 88 Silverado (black or course lol) sadly cancer is starting to take over it and one of my X's wrecked it...

@Thom

Oh you bet. If I am able to get it and when, there will be loads of pics.  ;D
