Am I the only one who think's somebody should make a book with lots of pictures cataloging nintendo's past console oddities and events that they held with lots of pictures?

I'm amazed by all the nintendo stuff japan has had as exclusives back in the days like the disk system and the disk system writer machines. And the famicom tape recorder thingie and the light gun they had that looks like a revolver. and the stellaview. Also rare prototype hardware that never was released like that weird sewing thing for the NES.

Nintendo's past amazes me and if they had a book on all this stuff i would read the whole thing in a day.

Of course there was that book about before mario. Which is great for learning about the stuff before video games. I wonder how that book is?

Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Heck I'd even help write it. I've got some strange Nintendo things here at home too. Like 2 and 1/2 ROBs. Or the Nintendo U Force... Here's a link.

I've heard from many writers in games journalism that Nintendo  (and many Japanese companies) are extremely hard to do sit down interviews with. It's really hard to get a hold of anybody in a decision making role. Then they only want to talk about future projects and never what was done in the past.

I wouldn't really go for the interview aspect in a book. I would do something more like an overview of what was created and actually released for the each console. Maybe some concepts that were close but not quite sticking to the wall when thrown.
Like I've seen a few SNES concepts that look butt ugly.

There are a lot of items I can't find products or pictures for on the actual NES system.
Like the NES Lock Out!

I absolutely love reading books about Nintendo and their related games.

David Sheff's "Game Over" is a fantastic read that sheds a lot of light on Nintendo's early video game days and the creation of Nintendo of America. He had a level of access to many Nintendo employees that absolutely does not happen anymore.

Blake Harris's "Console Wars" is another great read that's sort of a follow up to that book, as it focuses on the 16-bit war between Sega and Nintendo. However, it's much more focused on the rise of Sega of America, but it still offers some insights into the workings of Nintendo during that era as well.

The Pix 'n' Love books "The History of Nintendo" by Florent Georges are also fantastic. Well, the first one is at least, as the second one is rather expensive and I haven't picked it up yet. It offers plenty of cool pictures and information about old Nintendo products and services. "Before Mario" is also a really cool coffee table book detailing many of Nintendo's old toys, but much of the same information is found in "The History of Nintendo, Vol. 1".

While not history related, Amazon.com also has The Anatomy of Games books, the first of which have focused on Mega Man 1 & 2, Zelda 1 & 2, Castlevania, the Metroid series, and several Mario games. All the content in the books is available for free on their website, but it's nice to have in print.

Hardcore Gaming 101 also has a few excellent volumes on different game series, like Castlevania and Gradius. They are also available on Amazon.com

Also, Chris Kohler's book "Power Up!" is getting a reprinting next year, and I'm quite looking forward to finally getting to read that one as well.
