Would love to raise my CRT about 4 or 5 inches or so. But I'm looking for a riser that can support a 27 inch Sony CRT, which weights a lot. So not the ones that are for the little monitors.

I would go to lumber yard and buy few lenghts of 2*4 (maybe 3) and piece of plywood and build nice raiser myself.

Would that be strong enough to support a crt?

Use 3/4" plywood, and be sure to brace the middle of it as well with the 2x4's.

I'm using 2/4's and some plywood now that my rackmount servers are sitting on, so yes, it would definitely hold a CRT (rackmount servers are about 30-40 pounds each, I have two).

Can I use multiple sheets of the plywood? 3/4'' might not be enough height. I'm just wondering how much the plywood weighs, because that would add even more weight to the stand. And how do you brace it with 2x4s in the middle?

If anyone has a pic that would be great. I know this shouldn't be hard, just never attempted this before.

Yes you can use more than 1 sheet of plywood.

the build I told will easily take weight of the TV, heck it will take mine (nearly 140 kilos)

I'll make quick diagram in paint, just a sec.

Arrange the 4*2 like this

Top down view 2 inch side showing so 4 inch is the height.
Then put the plywood on the top and screw it to each 4*2 with maybe 3 screws per wood.
To add to the stability cover the ends too with plywood and screw with 2 screws per wood.
If you do that and use 3/4" plywood it will hold the TV no problem, like I said it will take my weight, AND WAAAAY MORE.

3 lenghts of 4*2 is is enough BTW, I just draw 4.
