This is gun-nac i got it as part of a deal from a random guy who messaged me on this forum for a trade.

Duck tales 2, Snow Bros. & Gun-nac

in exchange for

majora's mask new 3ds xl (brand new)
mega everdrive v1. with case, shell and 8gb sd card
and super mario world + all stars combo cart

he mailed first.

duck tales 2 and snow bros look and play fine however i was unable to get gun nac to start and upon opening the contacts on it look like this:

Just wondering if you guys think this cart could be saved by cleaning the contacts. I won't clean it without the owners permission.

Well i haven't mailed back. and if i cant get this game to work then i'll just send his games back. I'm trying to work out what to do with the guy.

How would you go upon trying to clean the lime off of the contacts?

i've had a couple games that looked like that.  I use Brasso and a q-tip for the majority of it and a magic eraser with a little Brasso on it.  A magic eraser is slightly abrasive, it's like a really, really, really, really fine sandpaper.

Isopropyl Alcohol, some 1-tips, and a pink eraser always worked pretty well for me.  Brasso was always a last resort and I've only had to use it a few times in cleaning thousands of games.  You may have to do the isopropyl+eraser method a few times, but it does work pretty well.

I've used WD40 on a qtip with success on dirty cart contacts. Is WD40 ok?

I've used WD40 before.  Never really cared for it.  No particular reason really.  I did kind feel like it left a bit of a residue, but that might just be me being paranoid.  Honestly, Brasso works best as far as cleaning just about any amount of grime from contacts, but it is pretty abrasive, so I only ever use it when it's absolutely needed.  The Isopropyl and eraser methods is the overall best thing I've found though.  Cheap, easy, isopropyl dries with zero residue, and it cleans pretty well with a little elbow crease thrown in.

I tried alcohol, didn't want to try something too abrasive. anyway the original owner is having me send it back to him for an exchange. I probably shouldn't be so un-trusting of the guy but I don't know him so that's where my problem is but he seems like an honest guy. I've just been burned many times. Anyways looks like the guy is taking care of it. Thanks for the replies guys.

You'll probably have to be abrasive to make it work properly.

Isopropyl Alcohol or Rubbing Alcohol as it is known has saved 11 carts I have gotten hold of that were said to be faulty/broken and could not be saved!

NEVER use WD40 or anything that isnt at the very least made up of 80% alcohol!!! the key to doing this is to leave no residue whatsoever.......which is why high alcohol content products are the way to go.

WD40 and anything that will leave even a microscopic level of residue might fix a game initially but in the long run it is not good for the connectors or anything electrical because there is always residue left behind and this will build up if you use it more and more.........and worse, will transfer INTO whatever system you are then plugging such carts into.

Isopropyl alcohol disappears pretty much on contact, which is why anyone who works with electronics will only ever use that and nothing else.

And by the way, that cart is totally saveable........I have cleaned worse and got them working.

As I said before a few times I always use Reiniger 601 from Kontakt Chemie. ;D
Has something like Pentan in it and cleans like a charm. Is also extremly volatile.

Don't ever put any fucking Brasso on contacts. That shit is NOT the product to use.

Magic eraser, isopropyl, mars erasers, etc. are far better options. That should clean up just fine.

I keep it simple and stick with the IPA and erasers.

Seller let me send it back to him and traded me for tmnt tournament fighters for NES. Very good guy. He goes by Ghost Soldier and I dont think he's posted on this forum much & I wasn't sure whether to trust him or not at first but he is a really good honest guy to trade with!
