Question: DS Cases?
(1/1)
Shadowfox:
So I will more than likely be creating Virtual Boy cases here within the next 30 days. This mold should be pretty east and go fast; they will be using the Gameboy cases as a template.

So since they will have this Gameboy mold out and working with it already I had a question: Would there be anyone interested in DS cases? I know that the factory already has the DS mold and it would just be a matter of taking that right side of the mold and copying it to my spine and left side of my cases.

I've had a few guys ask for DS cases here and there but never really thought about it until this morning.

The prices would be identical to the existing gameboy cases.

Thoughts?
Arseen:
Market for these is small for obvious reason (= not many games) but they are wanted.
TDIRunner:
If they are "working" on the Game Boy mold to make the Virtual Boy mold, does that mean you will no longer be able to produce GB cases?  Is there enough supply to continue to sell GB cases if you can no longer produce them?  I don't know how many you are continuing to sell on a regular basis, but I know that I will eventually need more.

I'm surprised there is enough demand to work on Virtual Boy cases right now.  Don't get me wrong, I think we would all eventually like cases for each type of cart based game.  But I would think we would want to work on the more popular systems first.  As seen with the GB cases and NES cases, there is a very long development period for these cases.  I can live with these long development periods because I understand that working with overseas companies has its challenges.  But if you work on something like Virtual Boy, I would think it would just add more time before we see things like Genesis cases or SNES cases.  Just my two cents.

***EDIT***
I forgot to answer your other question about DS cases.  While it would be nice to have a source for brand new DS cases, I would consider it to be low priority because there still seems to be a good supply of used DS cases in the market.  It's very easy to get used DS cases for around $1 each, shipped.  As long as that supply is still good, I wouldn't spend too much time and money developing replacements.

No worries! Any/ all the cases I'm making I have set up where I will always have them in stock.... forever. So the Gameboy cases are not going anywhere. Each mold has a lifespan of 200 MILLION copies! I am WAAAAAY below the 1% for this mold ;)

This factory has 10+ mold teams. So far I have been only using 1 team. (Now 2 with the SEGA clamshell cases)

Good point on the existing DS cases out there.... If I were to do DS cases I would probably talk the factory to let me run 5000pcs of the DS + 5000pcs of the Virtual Boy. But still, that would tie up money I could be using elsewhere...

TDIRunner:
Thanks for clarifying.  I was worried that they were disassembling the GB mold to make the VB mold.

Anyway, I'm sure you will get different opinions from different people, but I would prefer to see replacement Sega cases before anything else.  Andy by Sega cases, I mean cases that could fit the following:
  Genesis (top priority)
Sega CD and Saturn discs along with manuals (2nd priority) (preferably the same outer dimensions as the long box jewel cases)
Genesis EA games, 32x and Master System (it seems like there would be a way to get all of this into one case maybe)
Game Gear (low priority for me since i have mine in modified versions of you GB cases)

It would also be cool to get some type of TurboGrafx-16 cases.  What I would be looking for here would be an insert for a CD jewel case that would hold the card the way the originals did.  You would still need the front and back part of a generic CD jewel case which would hold the custom covers or original manuals.

That's just my wish list.
