Looking into getting a Famicom Disk system
larryinc64:
Sell, I might be stuck with some money at a online store because they won't refund a purchase of Amiibos. The site is selling a Disk System for around $50 with the RAM adapter and plug.
IS that a good price? What issued might it have? What games should I get?
I know the games have a high failure rate or can be rewritten,
I found this site that has a disk writing service that dumps roms on discs.

I've wanted one for a long time. I haven't priced them out lately, but that doesn't seem like too bad of a price to me. What is the shipping? Most of the ones I see are shipped from Japan, so the shipping price adds a lot. The biggest issue I'm aware of is with the belt failures. But my understanding is that they are easily replaceable. One other thing to keep in mind is that while most people probably used the A/C adapter, they could run off of batteries (Nintendo figured it was possible that a TV and the Famicom would take up both plugs of an outlet leaving no room for another device and power strips weren't common back then). So you would want to make sure that no one left batteries in it for a long time that leaked and corroded the contacts. It looks like you are already aware that games could be written over, which means you could buy one game, but it might have something else on it.
If I ever get one, I would definitely want to get the original Super Mario Bros. 2, and Doki Doki Panic since the US version of Super Mario Bros 2 is my favorite game and it was based off of that.
I'm sure that those with more experience can weigh in more on what I've said.

And the FDS Metroid has superior sound over NES version.

Believe it or not I kinda like the NES sound better that the FDS on metroid... The deeper bass gets on my nerves, one reason I've never been a fan of Sega MS and Genisis.
But hey, I'm never against adding new stuff to the collection! I'd say go for it if they are being douchy about it.

Bass is good!!!
Anyway if we ignore the bass the Jaop version is still better, compare @ 1 minute and 3 minutes on the video and you'll see what I mean.
