Wii U system: Why is it worth buying one?
oatmeal flavor:
The Wii U gets much more attention the the PS4 in my house.
gam3rz3r0:
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze alone is worth it IMO. Smash and MK 8 are a bonus.

While this isn't anything TOO spectacular by itself, but the Virtual Console is great. Playing on the gamepad is great. They have Earthbound! - which in itself is over half the cost of a Wii U.
Sadly, if you don't like Nintendo exclusives, then I can't see much reason to own one. Multiplats are sub par, if interesting - the gamepad inclusion in Arkham City was cool, although admittedly unnecessary.
But Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 are pretty amazing. I also really like New SMB Wii U. But for me, it's the VC which has a tiny fraction of the Wii library, but still very enjoyable.
You can also transfer all of your VC games from your Wii to your Wii U, I think you can move saved games as well. This WILL erase your Wii, but honestly I never touch that thing anyway.

I think it's awfully funny how almost everyone's opinion is either so different or exactly the same.
I bought the system. It's ok to me. If I had it to do over, I wouldn't have bought the wii u.
So far, Bayonetta 2 is the only exclusive that's good on the system that I've played. All the Mario games on the system you've already played in a sense because they are just rehashed games that's already been put out.
But as stated, there is no GREAT game for any of the new systems. So unless you like your wallet being raped, I'd wait for these "new gen" systems to actually have a handful of really good games you know that YOU want.
The only 2 games that I played the fuck out of and actually enjoyed are Dying Light and Resident Evil Revelations 2 on the Xbox One.

***Beware - Essay Ahead......but hopefully worth a read*** ;)
I have only just got a Wii U in the last week (the first time I am actually current gen with Nintendo in nearly 20 years! lol) and I must say...........I am LOVING it!
Although I felt the same for a long time regarding how it didnt seem to have many games, I cannot fathom how anyone, once you actually attempt to learn anything about the system, could say that, as not only does this seem odd when criticising the Wii U for not having any games.......when I could not name a single game on the PS4 or Xbox One that I have had a compulsion to play.........but there are so many fantastic games for it!!! (as the long ass list below will hopefully display).
So, here are the games and reasons I see it as a great system...........and in my opinion, I can very much see it becoming one of the great underrated systems of all time, say in 10 years, I think people are going to realise how much fun, how creative and innovative, and just plain gorgeous so many games are (these are not really in order).
*Also, within the above point about future realisations of how great a system this is, can you imagine how collectible it is going to be considering how limited the production of physical games has been? I mean christ, these games are holding there retail value YEARS after release!!! purely because Nintendo will not produce more of them! and they absolutely will not either, as they are clearly driving people to the Digi. Downloads form with how they are deleting and not producing physical games on the Wii U and 3DS after initial launch*
Current Games =
1 - Mario Kart 8 - By far the best game in the series and absolutely stunning! whoever rendered this game should/must have won an award.
2 - Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze - Better than the first "Returns" game, still hard as nails, still very creative and lots of fun.
3 - New Super Mario Bros - Sure its nothing new but if you have been playing Mario 2D platformers for any amount of time, you have to have it.
4 - Super Mario 3D World - Whilst not quite my cup of tea, it is none the less an awesome game.
5 - Super Smash Bros - Same as above, crazy fun multiplayer (as most of these are).
6 - Bayonetta 1 and 2 - Stunning games, epic scale, innovative design and concepts.......2 is incredible.
7 - The Wonderful 101 - Again, a very under appreciated game, crazy fun and the "chaos" is so much more controlled than you realise.
8 - Pikmin 3 - For me the best in the series, gorgeous to look at and play, and as usual, super rare already! lol.
9 - Rayman Legends - Sure its on EVERYTHING but none of the others have specific gamepad functionality and levels for the Wii U version.
10 - Resident Evil Revelations - 3DS version is the best, Wii U of this great and under appreciated game is 2nd.
11 - Wind Waker HD - Stunning game, made all the much better on Wii U via problems of the GC version being addressed.
12 - Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker - Another innovative, fun game that feels under appreciated.
13 - Zombi U - Gets way more criticism than it deserves, such a creepy atmospheric game with concepts people dont like = you HAVE to die! lol.
14 - NES Remix 1 and 2 - So much fun to have classic NES games in bite size challenge formats.
15 - LEGO City Undercover - This is f*cking GTA in LEGO land!!!! its freaking awesome and the best LEGO game ever, by far.
16 - Nintendo Land - Another launch title that gets way too much flack, its lots of fun, innovative and great multiplayer.
17 - Hyrule Warriors - How can this game be so under appreciated? its a hack and slash beat em up in the Zelda universe!!!
Honourable Mentions: Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Darksiders II, Batman Arkham City: Armoured Edition, Sniper Elite V2, Sonic & All Stars Racing: Transformed, Sonic: Lost World: Deadly Six Edition,
Upcoming Games Confirmed =
1 - Splatoon - Trust Nintendo to take the tired, worthless, repetitive and gaming industry ruining genre of FPS, and make an entirely original game with it.
2 - Yoshis Wolly World - Innovation again, this is no re-hash of Yoshi's island as so many of the "sequels" have been.
3 - Mario Maker - Seriously?......you can CREATE your own Super Mario Bros. levels and then play them!
4 - Kirby and the Rainbow Curse - Again, like Yoshis Wolly World.
5 - Devil's Third - Looks like this will be the next massively under appreciated and under recognised mature game, will be amazing.
6 - StarFox U - Need I say anything here??? the gamepad integration alone is going to be amazing.
7 - Mighty No. 9 - Sure its coming to everything......but it is Megaman in all but name, so HAS to be played on Nintendo.
8 - Xenoblade Chronicles X - Actually forgot this one as I do not care one little bit but obviously many may consider this a system defining game.
Upcoming Games Un-Confirmed but WILL be Released =
1 - Metroid U - Pretty much the main reason I finally caved.......it WILL happen.
2 - Zelda U - Sure, it was initially coming to the Wii U for sure but now everyone is scare mongering due its release push......but have you all forgotten Twighlight Princess? worst case scenario its a cross-platform release but for me it will be a Wii U exclusive then re-developed for the next system.
E-Shop and VC Games =
1 - Shovel Knight - NES style Megaman meets Castlevania.......pure awesome.
2 - Steamworld Dig - Fantastic game, platforming, puzzle elements, RPG elements, Minecraft elements, very deep game.
3 - Nano Assault Neo - Essentially Super Mario Galaxy with space ship shooting! its an on rails SHMUP I guess with stunning visuals and concepts.
4 - Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails - Extremely innovative on rails SHMUP......completely original! cant even describe it.
5 - Teslagrad - Awesome atmospheric stunning puzzle platformer.
6 - The Angry Video Game Nerd Adventure - How could anyone resists playing THIS game on Nintendo?
7 - Metroid Prime Trilogy - For £18/$25......you are getting 3 stunning games, with enhanced controls and visuals, for a 3rd of the price you will pay for the super rare physical release.
8 - NES/SNES/N64/GBA/DS etc. Classics - Not really anything necessary to say here is there? these arent just emulations as well, they look awesome.
Reasons To Buy the System =
1 - The Gamepad - Sure it doesnt have the integration and in game "use" everyone expected..........but you can play a next gen console on a TABLET! OFF TV!!!!! so whilst whoever else you live with wants to watch that shitty TV programme you hate, and you only have one TV, you can sit there and play ANY of these games, ANY time you want!...........if this was the only purpose the gamepad served, it would still be so worth it.
2 - The Graphics - If you are a hyper realism graphics monkey, then sure, it does not measure up to the others.
However, if you are interested in, inspired by or just plain appreciative of things like, ohh I dont know........art.......visual aesthetics.......design.......composition.......graphical atmosphere and ambience........boldness.........and consistent 60FPS visuals due to not trying to impress all the people who think great graphics are about how real something looks, then you will quickly realise that whilst the Wii U is not the most powerful machine on the market, it actually presents the BEST LOOKING games available! lol - hopefully that makes sense, to me, I can sit there and not be particularly be impressed by CGI fest movies and "stunningly real" video game graphics.......but show me the lighting effects in Mario Kart 8, the ambience of Rayman Legends, and many more, and I am in a world of artistic pleasure! ;D
3 - Its Just F*cking Fun - Seriously, the world of gaming has changed so much..........contemporary societal shifts have taken so much of the joy and simple pleasures out of life, the instant gratification drive towards uniformity and the rinse and repeat money making formulas that dominate our art forms have brought banality to our lives in such a way that we dont even realise.
If you understand or relate to that statement in any way........I can guarantee you one thing........the MOMENT you fire up your first game in the Wii U, you will realise that your face is beginning to hurt from the MASSIVE smile you didnt realise you had!!! ;D
When I first started playing it, it instantly took me back to Christmas day 1992.......that fateful and wonderful day I un-wrapped my Super Nintendo........I felt a similar joy and wonderment when I fired this baby up, all these years later, after all the child-like joy and life living has been beaten out of me through the pressures of adulthood, the demands of a living in this society we do, all the mental and physical trauma I have endured..........I felt like a kid again! and anything that can do that nowadays, even for the briefest of moments, is surely worth every penny.
