If I didn't use the "by console" method and just arranged it all by alphabetical order.....

at least then you could have series all together. I'm picturing something very different and perhaps very unorganized/mismatched but I might try this someday. Has anyone else?

One of the fun parts of having a decent collection is organizing it however you like....

Edit: Or by genre! All rpg's on 1 shelf!

I'll have most of my games organized by title/series -- though I've created a uniform template so they'll look pretty similar on a shelf.

I think the mismatched look would bug me, but you should still do it and take a pic. What if you just took series out and give them their own areas/shelves and left the rest grouped by system? That could be cool. I personally like to group by system as it seems more logical to me, but props for thinking outside the norm.

Maybe just make Neo Geo sized cases that every game under the sun will fit in to (or larger if there are games BIGGER than NG).  I mean, your walls would be NOTHING but games if you have a modest collection...but DAMMIT would it be cool.

That would be cool.

I mean if you could have everything by alphabetical order (EVERYTHING), you could then easily group all the zeldas together, the super smash bros, sonics, mario bros, etc.....

It'd be cool if we had the space to show the fronts of every single game we own, instead of just the spine. There's a lot of cool artwork that never gets shown. Kind of like comic books always being in long boxes instead of displayed on the wall.

Sigh...

I have seen a picture of this on here, reddit, or nintendoage.  The person actually did it my Company.  So all the sega stuff was organized with other sega stuff, and all the Nintendo stuff was with all the Nintendo stuff. :)  It actually looked ok.   Think about trying to find a game when organized by CONSOLE, it takes you a minute to find it, since all the spines look the same.  But when he organized by the whole company it make stuff pop out.  You'd easily find super Mario galaxy and the smashbrothers games, etc.  I'll see I can track it down.   The worst part of it was wasted space with some of the games, having a shelf larger than nessecary because there was 3 different sized cases to deal with.  But, you never have to re-do your shelving! :)

If you think about it, you could store just about everything in a UGC.  They are technically designed to hold CDs, so you could keep you disc based games in there as well (I would never do that myself).  Outside of Neo Geo AES gams, I can't think of anything that wouldn't fit in a UGC (some would require modification obviously).  It's an interesting diea, but at the end of the day, I much prefer to keep my stuff separated by system.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I keep mine organized by system, then alphabetically. I built my shelving units with two shelf sizes, one for DS cases/CDs, and one for DVD cases/ everything else. And yeah, the size difference would bother me. Very cool idea though. I like series-themed collections.

Shovel Knight (3ds/WiiU)

I've always though organizing things purely by release date would be really interesting. Especially around new system releases/late games in a system's life cycle. Maybe I'll do it when I reorganize just to snap a few pics.

Also makes you realize what games you thought were ages apart that came out before/after one another.

  • Coffee... What would I do without you?
I generally organise my collection by system, then by cover and edition, and then by alphabet. So my PS2 collection goes black label 0-9 A-Z, platinum 0-9 A-Z, special editions 0-9 A-Z. I tried to just organise it by system and alphabet, but it just irked me. I need things uniform, with that said, each to their own.

People call me weird for the fact I organise my collections by production/development/publishing company.

I just like to have the logo's on the spines all together, gives nice uniformity to the look of a collection.......especially for Super Famicom games as each publisher has different box designs.

So all the Nintendo published games, with their top and bottom borders, all line up.......Capcom and there black bars in the middle area all line.........Konami and their sideways downwards SFC text all line up.......know what I mean?

Then within that I do alphabetical.

Is that weird?  ;D
