Hello everyone.

We all have our favourite controllers. Mine just so happens to be the Gamecube controller... so comfortable. Anyway, if I had the know-how, the guts, and the time, I would love to reconfigure some things on the controller: swap the D-pad and analogue stick around; change the C-stick to another analogue stick; change the placement of the A, B, X and Y buttons to match the SNES controller; wireless (like the wave bird but without the extra fat). That would be my fantasy controller, and maybe one day I'll get around to testing my soldering skills in setting something like that up. So, I'm just wondering if any of you have a fantasy controller and if so, what would it be or look like?

I know a lot of people like the GameCube controller.  I can understand this to a point because the analog stick is excellent and the trigger buttons are fantastic.  However, the layout of the A, B, X and Y buttons is so poorly designed that, for this reason alone, I consider the GameCube controller to be one of the worst ever made.  I know I'm in the minority there, but that's how I feel.  With that said, if you are talking about hypothetical controllers then you could easily switch that layout to something similar to the SNES controller. Make the C stick more like the regular analog stick and add a second z bumper (seriously, why only have one?  What were they thinking?)

However, at the end of the day, I don't need a hypothetical controller because the PS3 controller does everything I want in a controller.  It has the best button layout; it's lightweight, with a built in rechargeable lithium ion battery, and Bluetooth connectivity.  While I'm a Nintendo guy at heart, to me, Sony has always made the best controllers.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

That is exactly what I meant.  :'(

I just really like the way the controller sits in my hands. It's just so comfortable for me and, as you said, the trigger buttons are awesome!

I agree with you, that the PS3 controller is a fantastic controller! If I could use the PS3 layout with a Gamecube shell, I'd be so happy.

I consider the layout of the A, B, X and Y buttons on the GameCube controller to be one of the three biggest design failures in gaming history.  The other two being the pause button the console of the Master System (instead of the controller) and Sony's refusal to put USB ports on the back of their systems (front USB ports are fine, but they still need to be on the back as well).  Sorry, that's off topic. I'm just ranting.

I guess I'll add one thing to my original post.  If I was making a hypothetical controller, I would take the PS3 controller exactly as it is and put it in the Dual Analog controller shell from the PS1.  In other words, keep the PS3 controller exactly as it is, but with a larger shell.  If you don't know what I mean, search Google for an image of a PS1 Dual Analog next to any other PS controller.

Xbox 360 controller is perfect for me sans dpad. With a decent dpad it would be just right. The button/stick/trigger placement all feels natural and it's very comfortable as it fits my hands very well. I added the KontrolFreek analog extender to the right analog of all of my controllers and love it. It really helps with precision aiming.

I get what you mean man. :) You could probably do something like that easily enough (someone who has done this before can confirm?).

The GameCube controller is comfortable in the hand, shape-wise, but its open disregard for symmetry always bothered me - analog sticks are different shapes, sizes, and colors, face buttons 3 different shapes, sizes, and colors, and the little Z button always looked out of place. And the d-pad is tiny :P

And as far as the second Z button goes, that seems to be one of the most common features in third-party GameCube controllers.

When I first got my Xbox One the thing that surprised me the most was the controller. The console and almost everything about it was very coo,and new and exciting, but no matter how many people had talked up the controller pre-purchase it did not prepare for what my hands were about to grasp. Now admittedly the analog sticks being smaller through me off a bit, and the new feel of the bumpers had some getting used to, but after a bit of practice I confidently say that  the feel of the controller is spectacular. The rumble features feel great, especially the new force feedback in the triggers. Taking the lights off where it would normally show what player you are was a little confusing and an odd choice, but I was able to figure it out. Overall the best part about it is that there's not a huge bump on the back to put your batteres! It's heaven for your fingers just resting all comfortably back there! lol Anyway you know it's big deal when Microsoft decided to put so much money towards designing it ($100 million I believe).

I actually am not a fan of the xbox one controller. The thumbsticks make my thumbs cramp up and the bumper buttons  just aren't comfortable to hit for me.

The 360 controller was by far the best controller.

Xbox 360 hands down the perfect fit.  Xbone would be a tie for first but instead is second since the bumpers suck donkey dick.

i've never understood why people love the 360 controller so much.  to me, it has always felt clunky, the weight seems off, and that d-pad....eugh!

i had a 360 before i had a ps3, and just didn't use it because i hated the controller so much.  sony controllers all the way for me.  PS4 controller is nigh on perfect.

PS controlers are good but to small for me.  I feel the buttons are all so close together.  The 360 just feels like it is solid built to last and I just feels natural the way it is ergonomically.

I'll probably get lynched for this, but I prefer the layout of the Wii U Pro Controller. I like having the two sticks on the same level, and having the lower stick below the d-pad feels terrible, so there.
