Xbox 360. Lost tons of content there. I've read that when you buy content on a 3DS that it's tied to that console. Is this not true? You can't just back up a game on Xbox and play it on another console. You either have to be on the original console or account it was purchased on for it to work. I still don't like digital, but if Shovel Knight is this good maybe I'll give it a shot.

All systems are ties to the account, not the system, with Nintendo being the only ones who tie it to the system (which is dumb.) xbox shit I am on my 4th one and never had issues re downloading anything as long as I was logged into my account.

Also I wasn't sure if real about your other post.  They way you worded it.  Itsounded like you just heard about a year old game that was everywhere at launch because of how good it is.

Nintendo eShop purchases are tied to the Nintendo Network ID, and if yours is damaged during a skydiving incident or murdered by Sony/Microsoft hit-men, all you need to register this on a new 3DS is to transfer this to the new one. This will transfer not only the network ID, but even the usage rights to data saved on your SD card, Nintendo DSiWare, your Nintendo eShop user history and balance, any save data from software pre-installed on the system, and Nintendo DS software settings!   ;D
To be this good it takes AGES!

I also don't see it as a huge problem if the price is cheep enough. You pay for a movie ticket and you don't get to keep the movie forever, and the internet always will have the game backed up in some way, so if the original is gone, there is a cracked version that still works. You will be able to keep the game forever, and the developer still gets paid, which is good, especially for indie.

Steam has the right idea with the constant sales the have, also there is Humble Bundle and GOG. So many great games for under $3.

I'm with those who are not fans of digital download games.  However, I'm realistic enough to know that it's not worth missing out on a good game if it's only available as digital.

As far as the risk of loosing the ability to play the game down the road, keep in mind that there are some physical games that only work online and those games also become unplayable when the servers to those games go away, so that issue is not found only on digital games.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

That's true for now with the Xbox, but in a few year they're going to cut online support for it and those games will be lost once the current system the rights are on craps out. Now you may say that owning a game for 10 years or 100 years isn't a big deal, but I like to own for life or at least have the option to give/trade/sell it to someone else if I decide to get rid of it. With digital content, it's just gone forever. Xbox/Sony could have fixed this issue to if they would have allowed the option to redownload content from the previous generation on the current platform. I don't think enough people care about this for it to be economically viable to them, but I care! I care about backwards compatibility too, but this is somewhat of a different subject.

By the way, comparing a video game purchase to a visit to the movie theatre is totally different. I know I'm paying for a one time experience at the theater, same as when I drop quarters at an arcade or pay for dinner at a restaurant. Of course I don't expect a life time of service in those instances, but if I'm spending my $ on a video game for personal home use, I like to own it permanently or at least have the option to give/trade/sell it later.

I'm not sure if I'm so dead set on my anti digital stance to avoid a great game if that's the only format it's available in. To be honest, this is the first time this issue has come up for me. Actually, I'm lying. I cracked and bought a digital copy of Limbo before that became available on physical release (or maybe it was available from the get go and I just wasn't aware of it at the time), but I still want a physical copy.

As for the misunderstanding, yes, I really hadn't heard of the game until recently. I do like to keep up with gaming news, but some stuff is still going to slip under the radar from time to time. I only got the Wii U for my kid (and myself) in October and I really did only just hear about Shovel Knight this last week. No offense good sir, but I don't think it's amazing that someone hasn't heard of a game until a good deal after it's release. There are likely too many games in existence for one to keep up with them all. From what I have heard of how good Shovel Knight is, I am considering it since so many have made it sound like a travesty against gaming to forego such an awesome title simply because it has no place on a shelf, but I will need to meditate and consider my stance some more before paying for another invisible rental. Long live physical!
