Does anyone have opinion regarding the Playstation TV for PS VITA/PSP games on their TV?

I have been considering one ever since I first heard about it.  I haven't used one yet, but the most common complaint I hear about is game compatibility.  Since you have to use a PS3 or PS4 controller to play the games, any game that requires the touch pads may not work.  I've read that some games incorporate the L3 and R3 buttons for the touch screen.  In other words, as you hold down the L3 or R3 buttons and move the sticks around, that acts as your finger touching the screen.  However, for games that require quick touch pad actions, the L3 and R3 buttons probably won't be quick enough.

At the end of the day, there just aren't enough games on the Vita (PS TV compatible or not) that I'm interested in enough for me to buy one.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I haven't used any of the streaming functions yet, so can't comment on those.  Compatibility in my opinion is awful for vita games.  First 4 or 5 games I tried were incompatible, including lumines which is supposed to work.  Once you do get one to work, it does play very well, I've synched a PS3 pad to use with mine, and it's very responsive, and nicer than using vita controls.

I don't understand why they don't patch the games to remove touch screen gimmicky controls and allow them to work on it.  If compatibility was better I would be singing its praises, but as it stands it's pretty much useless.

It's the worst Playstation Product I ever purchased! I plugged it in, tried it once and put it away. Garbage!

Why you ask?

Most PS Vita games don't work on it. If you purchased digital content, it will let you use it on either the PS Vita or PS TV but not both. No netflix. It's only a quarter HD. The streaming funtions is only ok as there's a drop in quality. It's just worthless.

I had high hopes for it because I love (and prefer) to play portable systems on regular TVs.  But I expect 99% compatibility (think Super Game Boy or Game Boy Player)  They should have just included some type of A/V out port like they did with the PSP.

I just bought one... because it seems like one of those things that will be a curious footnote in the future, mainly.

But it ALSO comes with a PS3 controller and another Vita memory card, both of which I have use for (having both a Vita and a PS3), so in that sense, the PSTV only cost me 30 dollars.

Looking at it that way made it an easy purchase. And from what I've heard, the PlayStation Now streaming actually works very well.

Despite the negative press, I'm still considering one simply because I've found a deal for $90 which includes the bundle with a controller, memory card and game.  It seems like it would be worth it just for the extra stuff.

I'm curious though for those who have one.  Any time a see a promo picture of it, it's always standing vertically.  Can it stand vertically or does it have to sit horizontal?  Also, for anyone who bought the bundle, is the Lego game a physical copy or a digital download?

Maybe if I wait longer it will get cheaper when they clearence them out due to poor sales........

I bought one for the same reason you did - even if it doesn't work so well, the included stuff quite nearly makes up for it. And as to your questions...

Both ends are rounded, and the back has all the cable connections, so it has to be used horizontally, and the Lego game is a download code.

Thanks for the response.  The horizontal orientation isn't a big deal, but the promo photos seem misleading.  Also, the digital download of the game is disappointing as I prefer physical copies (although I don't know how crazy I would be about that game anyway).  I guess I'm still on the fence.

I have one.

It's a shame that so much stuff isn't compatible - and I do mean A LOT of stuff - but most of the recent games are.

If I ever get a large amount of disposable income, I'll get this: http://www.3dsvideocapture.com/

But until I hit the lottery, I'll have to make due with the PSTV to do my video reviews.

They have been about that price for a while now. It was 100 and 120 I think when it first came out.

Where I live, I've never seen it cheaper then $100 for the bare unit, and $140 for the bundle.  I never priced out online purchases until last night.  I'll probably just wait.  I can only see the price getting cheaper until the discontinue it.  Unless they find some big fixes for it in the near future.

the thing is, its compatible with the dual shock 4, i got one when i got mine, i was surprised it couldn't use the touch pad on that, so im hoping for an update/hack which allows greater compatability with the DS4 touch pad, and hopefully unlock A LOT more of the game library...
