If only more people did this, I'll admit I have a limited knowledge of the law, but I have some experience with YouTube.

after doing a little research, I agree with Nintendo on this one. According to an article published by Spiegel, one man rakes in around 4 million euro. What? no wonder big mouths are opened wide about this one: they want to keep raking in cash.

"der laut "Wall Street Journal" rund vier Millionen Euro im Jahr verdient"

as far as youtube goes, i am clueless about ad revenue. I never realized how many people are making money from stupid videos. wow!

I'm mostly shocked that anyone watches let's play videos. I find them to be quite lame. The person playing is always awful. The players always miss tons of items and secrets. I hate listening to the voice-overs. Always some annoying idiot with a bad voice. yikes! I am really amazed with this entire subject. I still cannot believe that anyone would pay for ads on a let's play video. interesting.

I learn something new everyday...

My favorite Let's Play series tend to be the ones that are more podcast than "ECH DERZ A SCAWY ROBOT BEAR" Not saying Power Plaid Plays never falls into that, but I try to avoid that.  :P

A great example of the more podcast like ones is Let's Drown Out by Yatzee, of Zero Punctuation fame, and Gabe. They are not even playing the game in many videos, they just talk over footage one of them recorded earlier and get into very interesting conversations.

As for my channel, I really want to take it in a direction of original scripted content. Some VG related, some not. The reason I'm mostly doing LPs right now is A) It's fun to make, I'm playing games with my best friend and adding some fun edits to it, and B) (This is also why they are so popular) They are quick to make and bring in a ton of viewers. This also pushes people bringing in this kind of views up the promotion ladder on YT, due to how YT calculates it based on viewer retention.

A average PPP episode takes a day to make, Scripted content takes much more effort and time. Time I don't currently have between school and work. An animated video 5 minutes long can take weeks to months.

Larry, you are an exception. I'm not including you in my thoughts. You are a fellow TCP member and you contribute alot here. I'm sure that you make good videos. I promise to watch some of your videos. I wish you success. Meantime, i'm just amazed that someone could possibly earn 4 million euros by simply playing a game.

My opinion does't matter anyway. I don't work for Nintendo or YouTube/Google. Alot of TCP members dislike me for various reasons, so who cares what i think? I was just shocked at that amount of money for a video. Maybe i'm jealous. LOL. Anyway, i'm off to work on some projects...

Have a great day everyone and Happy Gaming.

No bad feelings, I was just joking ;)
There are a lot of bad let's plays out there, and it is a skill to make good ones.

Let's Plays are much harder to do than podcasts, because you have to focus on the game, and keep up a conversation. The reason people on LPs have ether bad commentary or miss everything is that they have to divide their focus. I started recording episodes in 2013, and I went back to edit and old episode and find our older commentary pretty bad. I'm putting a lot of work in to edit what we are saying to something consistently funny. I also find I'm much worse at games when I'm recording for the show. I'm editing a Super Mario 64 series right now, a game I'm normally very good at, and I'm sucking hard.
Same with my Mario Kart 64 and Double Dash episodes I posted, but that one had more of a comedic effect.
